I think this is a valid point. We have people spouting nonsense about top 5 academics as hurting football. Baloney. By that logic Auburn/FSU should be national champions most years. Most football fans like winners. At this point, it is not clear to anyone how this NIL business will play out and people are hesitant to jump into it for lack of "visible trajectory". Once, there is tangible evidence of how the gator collective impacts outcomes, more people will jump in. Also, most of the "top 5 academic" alumni at UF will be younger folks who hardly contribute to booster pool. Never understood this bashing of UF academics.

I don’t really see fans bashing UF academics - if that is what you are referring to- but maybe I missed it. I think fans do bash that as a selling point to sell the football program especially to recruits. The type of athletes / players who care about that are few and far between and not playing for football national championships at Stanford and the like. They are at Bama and Georgia and football power houses. And not due to academics.

Exactly. It is a ridiculous premise created by old Hollywood movies where the jocks give Poindexter a wedgie. The only instances where a battle between academics and athletics manifests itself in reality is when it has been allowed to cultivate in the minds of university administrators. If they think they have to choose one over the other, then it becomes real.

Exactly, the quotes suggest someone said it, not that it is their actual names.

I’m not bashing academics at all. I’m saying it’s irrelevant on a football field. You can have both, neither helps or hurts the other.

Agreed! There have been a few posts on the main sports board where people correlate UFs rise in academics with the fall of the football program, implying a cause-and-effect relationship. This is obviously misreading of the football failures.

ESPN's Bill Connelly has the Gators ranked #18 on his early 2022 football projections, however has Texas A&M at #6, Tennessee #9, Kentucky #21, Mississippi at #22 and Auburn #25, but LSU didn't make the list, Miami did at #20 and FSU at #24.

Not sure why Tenn would be on anyone’s Top 10.

I do think the enhanced entry requirements, UFs top 5 academic ranking and the increasing cost of out of State tuition has resulted in a lot of non football fans and non Gator fans going to Florida. I know a lot of lifetime Gator families whose children did not get into UF. History of grandparents, parents, going to UF and traveling to games for years and then the kids who love Gators and football don’t get in. They lose out on a lot of fans attending games when they stop that family tradition. Think UF political correctness to not consider or provide points for legacy applications is a mistake. Leads to empty student sections and Gator alumni not visiting UF for games and to see children.

Note I say this as a triple Gator legacy family where Grandparents, parents, and daughter all went to UF

Well said. Unfortunately lots of things today fall into the same trap. Association is not causation.

Shane4three- how does that work? After two years with an AA or going JUCO? Going Santa Fe? After freshman year? Going from UCF or USF to UF? Thanks
