You seriously haven’t read the anti-science rhetoric in this forum? You haven’t heard Trump take credit for everything positive that happens, especially the stuff he makes up, and pass blame for everything that goes wrong?

Yes of course I've heard all of that but every single thread doesn't need to be about Trump.

Just to add, the stem cell is transduced with a virus (lentivirus) that contains the gene for normal hemoglobin. The gene is introduced into the stem DNA so that when the stem cell divides, the new hemoglobin gene is duplicated in the new cell. This is the second gene therapy treatment for SCD, the first one being Casgevy, a CRISPER product.

Just to point out, these treatments and technologies only exist today because of the work funded by NIH years ago. Cutting our NIH funding and researchers today will lead to fewer breakthrough treatments tomorrow.

Edit: for further clarification, the lentivirus itself is engineered by plasmids to carry the new hemoglobin gene.

Adding that as a result of cuts in NIH funding similar biomedical breakthroughs may not occur, may occur later and/or may occur in countries other than the US. Cutting the funding for the NIH is not a strategy that will make America great.

My guess is that this treatment for sickle cell cancer can cause blood cancer. Time will tell

If I were a Trump supporter I’d be tired of reading about his idiocy too. Too bad he can’t just stay in South Florida and play golf the rest of his term.

I would have no objections to that. In fact that auto pen would do a much better job.

There is a theoretical risk of cancer with vectors that insert the gene into the genome. This is why sponsors are required to follow patients out to 15 years after administration. So far, this hasn't been an issue.

What is this, 20 questions? I don’t know and it does matter to me if you are or not.
