Erdogan doing his best trump and deporting foreign journalists. Surprised this hasn't been discussed here already. Istanbul mayor opposing Erdogan, wins party nomination, gets arrested, protests are flaring. trump green with envy wanting to arrest a dem leader somewhere, anywhere...

Erd's is going soft, only held him for 17 hours, let him leave on commercial..we blackhole them for weeks before shackles and chains out..

BBC's Mark Lowen deported from Turkey after covering protests

BBC correspondent Mark Lowen has been deported from Turkey after being arrested in Istanbul on Wednesday, the BBC has said.

Lowen had been in Turkey for several days to report on the ongoing protests that were sparked by the Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu's arrest last week.

Imamoglu - who is being held in jail on corruption charges he denies - is seen as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's main political rival.

He has been selected by his party as presidential candidate in the 2028 election.

I wonder what the price of eggs is when the inflation rate is hovering around 40% (down from over 80% a few years ago)

The next "world war" is not going to be State vs State in the classic US vs. USSR. It will be very likely be citizens against their own fascist governments, and there will be nothing "civil" about them.

Erdogan is dirty and underhanded; he had the university rescind the degree of his opposition three decades after it was earned. You might think Erdogan is just being petty, but it’s not that. Türkiye law requires candidates to have a degree so this is seen as a way to try to block the opposition candidacy before there’s even a vote.

Erd following Trumps lead and having his DOJ investigate people that call for protests

Turkey protests: Everything we know about mass demonstrations, journalists detained after Erdogan rival jailed | The Independent

Turkey’s largest cities have been rocked by protests for nearly a week as hundreds of thousands of protesters turned out in support of Mr Imamoglu.

The daily protests have escalated since they began on Wednesday after Mr Imamoglu was detained, with police deploying water cannon, teargas and pepper spray as well as firing plastic pellets at protesters in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. Some of the people demonstrating hurled stones, fireworks and other missiles at riot police.

A total of 1,133 people have been detained. The interior minister, Ali Yerlikaya, said more than 100 police officers had been injured.
