Fox News won a court case by 'persuasively' arguing that no 'reasonable viewer' takes Tucker Carlson seriously
Fox News won a court case by 'persuasively' arguing that no 'reasonable viewer' takes Tucker Carlson seriously

US District Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil agreed with Fox's premise, adding that the network "persuasively argues" that "given Mr. Carlson's reputation, any reasonable viewer 'arrive with an appropriate amount of skepticism' about the statements he makes."

"This 'general tenor' of the show should then inform a viewer that he is not 'stating actual facts' about the topics he discusses and is instead engaging in 'exaggeration' and 'non-literal commentary,'" the ruling said."

Hah, apparently Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil never met flgator2.

Just a guess but I suspect that McCarthy's "decision" to provide the documents and footage to Carlson was part of the deal he made to obtain sufficient votes for his election to the Speakership. Although Kevin McCarthy is the Speaker of House he is essentially a tool of clowns like Marjorie Taylor Green, Paul Gosar and Matt Gaetz to name a few of the fringe members responsible for his election. Certainly the weakest Speaker in my lifetime and possibly in the entire history of the Republic.

highly recommend maga not believe Fox News. or tucker. Fox lies because their viewers only want confirmation bias and will turn the channel if facts presented contradicts their preferences.
And fox lawyer’s literally argued no reasonable person believes tucker.

“In the heat of the moment, right after Election Day 2020, media magnate Rupert Murdoch knew that the hosts on his prized Fox News Channel were endorsing lies”

“It’s remarkable how weak ratings make good journalists do bad things,” the filing quotes Fox Washington news executive Bill Sammon as saying.

“Internal texts and emails given over as evidence in the lawsuit confirm that just about everyone at Fox knew President Joe Biden won the election fair and square. They seriously considered making that fact clear to their viewers but decided against airing the truth because they worried that the Trump-loving core of their audience would be outraged and would switch to competing “news” channels that are even more right wing.”

Fox lies because the audience demands it. While Tucker is clowning the same audience privately, he is providing this service and worrying about the stock price if they don't serve this up.

I'm not sticking up for Tucker, I'm glad I will never be within 1000 feet of him, he's truly a scumbag. But in reality this is supply meeting demand.

To add to this, what I'm reading is that his plea to that count carried a possible sentence of up to 20 years. The prosecutors asked for four years, and the Judge (a Regan appointee) sentenced him to 41 months. So the prosecutors got almost all the time they wanted. But notably, Chansley left the note calling Pence a traitor after previously posting on Facebook after the election that we should hang the traitors lurking among us. I don't know if the Judge considered that or to what extent, but that probably didn't help his case. He did have a private lawyer, and I'm not sure if he was working pro bono or if Chansley's family paid for him. Something a lot of defendants don't get.

Most of these defendant's will have private attorneys. The Federal PD's office can only represent so many of these defendants due to conflict and/or other constraints. The judge will then appoint a private attorney off of a list lawyers available for that purpose. They are paid by the federal government. They used to be referred to as CJA panel attorneys back when I participated in it, I don't know if the name has changed.

    Bottom of a pint glass
This thread is great self-fulfilling humor.

You point out an undisputable fact: Murdoch just admitted last week under oath that Fox News lied about the Trump election fraud claims.

The usuals hit you with a "disagree." As in, they disagree with this fact you pointed out.

How can you disagree with a fact?

Better tune in to FoxNews to find out how. lol
