Why is it that some cultures (generally speaking) succeed and others do not in USA?
Why is it one party seeks to throw the unfair flag on every play?
Which party actually has the correct, healthy philosophy?
    Get back to me…

To the victor go the spoils has always been how political appointees happen in our system, for better or worse. For the most important positions at least there are checks and balances through the confirmation process as are ongoing now. Unfortunately, our electors are largely idiots that elect idiots (on both sides) and confirmation hearings are mostly just theater. The VP’s choice for his press sec is of so little consequence that I am almost embarrassed to be on this thread. Merit is applicable in non-political appointments and should be how such positions are filled, but those selections can still be subject to human bias. Maybe merit in the future will be determined via AI?? Folks, we have much bigger issues in our politics than this silly example of potential favoritism. I don’t have a solution, though, so I’ll just hang up and listen from this point on.

Nepotism in the federal government isn't anything new. I'm retired federal employee. I still recall the appointment of the daughter o a well-connected Republican Senator being appointed to a position in my agency early in the Reagan Administration although she had absolutely no qualifications for the position. The difference between then and now is that appointments of that nature were few and far between. Trump wants to replace most of the career civil service with political hacks.
