Was Trump planning to say something different here than what he said? His comments seem to be getting even more strange.

    https://www.salon.com/2023/10/24/fa...-indicted-compares-himself-to-nelson-mandela/

Asked by a reporter if he was concerned that his recent assertion that Powell was never his lawyer (despite him previously saying she was) means that his communication with her would not be protected under attorney-client privilege, Trump, who has been indicted four times, falsely stated that he was actually "never indicted."

"We did nothing wrong,” Trump asserted. “This is all Biden. Indictments, impeachments — this is all about Biden. ... I was never indicted. You practically never heard the word. It wasn't a word that registered.”

Alternative facts: it's all a scam, a witch hunt and all the other bullshit he and his worshippers toss out.

Jenna flipped like a flounder today. She irritates me the most because she is so disingenuous. Her statement at sentencing is incredulous.

Mark Meadows Flips on Trump, Spills to Jack Smith: Report

Mark Meadows has reportedly testified before a federal grand jury impaneled by Special Counsel Jack Smith in exchange for immunity from prosecution in the Justice Department’s election interference case against Donald Trump.

According to ABC News, the former White House chief of staff has testified under oath at least three times, twice before the special counsel’s office and once to a grand jury, regarding the investigation into Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Meadows reportedly testified that he had told the former president the election was lost and, according to sources, testified to the DOJ that “obviously we didn’t win.”

Trump has long suspected that Meadows would flip on him. In June, sources who spoke to Rolling Stone stated that Meadows was referred to as a “rat” among Trump’s inner circle, and indicated that the former president had sent allies on a “small fact-finding mission” to ascertain what Meadows had been telling investigators.

Potentially very bad for trump. Meadows was at the Prez side during it all and was also in frequent contact with Ginni Thomas including many times on J6 iirc. - will be interesting to see if any testimony goes into what all that was about. Don’t see that happening but would like to know more about her involvement.

Powell and Chesbro both took the option of a speedy trial. That put pressure on the prosecution to have the case put together quickly, and it would also serve as a roadmap for the later trials. Both those facts provided incentive for the prosecution to plea them out vs expending resources on those trials while having to prepare for the others. I have heard it speculated that the two requested speedy trials in anticipation of getting a more favorable plea deal.

This isn't at all unusual. Linked below is Florida's Criminal Punishment Code Scoresheet, the current version of our state court sentencing guidelines. This is how the minimum sentence a judge is required to impose in felony cases is calculated. On page 4 are the legally valid reasons when a judge can downward depart from that minimum sentence. Pay particular attention to the 1st and ninth reasons, "Legitimate, uncoerced plea bargain" and "The defendant cooperated with the State to resolve the current offense or any other offense." (The legislature has assigned an offense level to every crime which is required to calculate the sentence.)

In the Federal system there is actually a point deduction for "acceptance of responsibly" which would lower the presumptive sentence to be imposed according to their guidelines.

It's completely normal that a former POTUS and potential future one refers to informants as rats. Not a matter of concern at all.

Although it probably completely escapes them or they really do not care it's somewhat ironic that Republicans and right-wing commentators who refer to "the Biden crime family" worship a certain politician and former reality television star who frequently uses the same language commonly used by a real Don of an organized crime family.

Trump is essentially a capo in an international crime family headed by international oligarchs. He would be like at the Paulie Walnuts level in The Sopranos.

He isn't that integrated into the money laundering operation. He is more like an outside contractor. They pay him to disguise the value of real estate for use in money laundering by attaching intangible "brand value" to buildings. But I doubt any of the folks in charge trust him enough to put him in charge of actual decision making within their business or holding any secret information.

After surprise testimony from Trump, judge fines him $10K for second gag order violation

NEW YORK — The judge overseeing Donald Trump’s civil fraud trial fined him $10,000 for violating the judge’s gag order for a second time.

    ***

During a break in the proceedings earlier in the day, Trump told reporters in the hallway outside the courtroom that “this judge is a very partisan judge with a person who’s very partisan sitting alongside of him, perhaps even much more partisan than he is.”

With Trump on the witness stand, the judge asked: “To whom were you referring?”

“You and Cohen,” Trump replied, referring to Michael Cohen, his former personal lawyer and fixer who testified about Trump’s business practices on Tuesday and Wednesday.

will Chutkan have the courage to enforce the agreement that DT signed? this would also appear to be a third strike as it would also seem to violate the NY order

Trump’s latest attack on witnesses is one of his most brazen (msn.com)

“BUT,” Trump added, “when you really think about it, after being hounded like a dog for three years, told you’ll be going to jail for the rest of your life … If you say BAD THINGS about that terrible ‘MONSTER,’ DONALD J. TRUMP, we won’t put you in prison, you can keep your family and your wealth, and, perhaps, if you can make up some really horrible ‘STUFF’ [about] him, we may very well erect a statue of you in the middle of our decaying and now very violent Capital, Washington, D.C. Some people would make that deal, but they are weaklings and cowards, and so bad for the future our Failing Nation.”

Trump’s comments would seem to transparently violate the limited gag order that U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan issued in Trump’s federal case but later suspended while Trump’s legal team appeals the decision. (The government is due to weigh in Wednesday and will surely include Trump’s most recent comments.)

Whether the comments violate the conditions of Trump’s pretrial release is the critical question. Trump signed a form in August acknowledging that it would be a crime to “intimidate or attempt to intimidate a witness, victim, juror, informant, or officer of the court.”
