There is way too much law on this already. His lawyer and surrogate are arguing today that the discovery should be made public because they know it will not be and want to assert that the Biden Administration is suppressing the truth. Their arguments are in bad faith and Trump is pushing a gag order. Anyone who wants to read witness testimony can read the 1-6 report and access the testimony which is all public. Frankly, I hope the testimony is released.
While the Democrats and Hillary complained about the election, this was her response after the election was called for Trump. Maybe you can provide a link in which Hillary and the Democrats tried to block the certification of the Electoral College vote by Congress and since I apparently missed it and while you are at a link to Trump's concession speech similar to Hillary's concession since I seemed to have missed that, too. The Democrats may have been pissed off at the results of the election and Russian interference in the campaign but they never denied the reality of the result nor did they try to resort to patently illegal long shot strategy to overturn the election unlike the Orange God and the co-conspirators mentioned in Jack Smith's recent indictment.
And in a lot of countries a politician who attempts a self coup d'état to illegally remain in power would be prosecuted, imprisoned or even executed. And if Trump is elected he will almost certainly do what he has accused Biden and the Democrats of doing specifically weaponizing government against his political opponents and it shouldn't be a surprise since he has openly advertised his intentions.
I must say I’m looking forward to the Georgia indictment (likely tomorrow based on what I’ve heard) the most. That’s the most egregious thing he’s done, IMO. Just straight treasonous.
It’s all part of the same scheme to defraud the election really, but the direct call to “find me votes” is perhaps the most egregious single incident AND it’s on tape. Sad that it’s not even particularly shocking.
It’s the most direct evidence. Because it is on tape. And it has nothing to do with a claim of fraud. He is asking for Georgia to find cited for him that weren’t there. Clear evidence of an intent to defraud. And it was combined with threats in that call that Raffensberger could be prosecuted. If I was trying the case, Pence (“you’re too honest”) would be my first witness. Raffensberger (the tape) second. And the Acting AG (“just say the DOJ is investigating fraud and leave it up to me and the Republican Congressmen”) would be third. Strong evidence of fraudulent intent right up front. From the VP he chose, a GOP state official and the Acting AG Trump appointed. Then the Michigan State Reps he met with. Start right up front with Trumps involvement and intent and then fill in the details later of the Methods of his co-conspirators
It is shocking, in the extreme. According to some scholars perhaps, with the exception of 1861, the most shocking attempt to overthrow the constitution and our form of Govt.
Interesting interview with one of Trump's current lawyers. Unlike in prior representations, he is not going with right-wing cranks. John Lauro is a respected local defense attorney, and you can hear the difference. I'm only about 20 minutes in and don't have a background in criminal defense. Obviously I disagree with his position that the case should have never been brought until after the election, but I understand he's doing his job. I cringed when he came to the defense of Allen Dershowitz. I'm not qualified to judge on his points about prosecutors in general being unfair with their protective order requests. Maybe someone who does criminal defense can weigh in. But it is interesting to hear someone that's actually a professional attorney defend Trump. John Lauro for Donald J. Trump - For the Defense with David Oscar Markus
Not entirely. He is supposed to sell it without it smelling like dung. His goal is for public perception but not for a trial defense. So far, he has failed.
