DOJ won’t argue that trump has immunity in Jean Carrol defamation case setting him up for additional damages. That’s a real kick in his diapers.

DOJ no longer believes Trump should have immunity from E. Jean Carroll defamation lawsuit | CNN Politics

Justice Department lawyers said they took into consideration Trump’s deposition that was played in the battery and defamation trial, as well as statements Trump made last October repeating the denials long after he left office, as an indication that he was not motivated to protect and serve the US when he first made the comments.

Lawyers for the Justice Department wrote that after balancing and weighing the evidence “from Mr. Trump’s deposition, the jury verdict in Carroll II, and the new allegations in the Amended Complaint, the Department has determined that there is no longer a sufficient basis to conclude that the former President was motivated by ‘more than an insignificant’ desire to serve the United States Government,” lawyers for the Justice Department wrote.

Apparently trump is all about this investigation and considers it an honor. Hope they honor him by retaining him as a guest of the federal government.

So how long before the list of cooperating witnesses is released? Have they disclosed immunity etc deals and I missed it?

They need to find a way to start charging this jack wad for all the wasted time he is putting the courts thru.

Trump can avoid any jail time, and any delayed trials, by winning the 2024 election. And his chances are getting better and better (as Ron Zook would say) as people like Cornel West and Joe Manchin want to run as third-party candidates. Any third-party candidate being in effect a willing Trump puppet, taking votes away from Biden. The field for a third-party nomination could become as crowded as the field for the GOP nomination. (Where's Ralph Nader?) And Biden through his squinting eyes can't see the writing on the wall.

There are only a few ways that the Trump story ends:

    1. He falls out a high window like a lot of Russian troublemakers do.
    2. He gets some kind of hot dose of a drug like Sharon Stone in Casino.
    3. He kills himself.
    4. He runs off to Russia and marries Tara Reade.

Either he or his handlers will make sure he's never rightfully locked up for his crimes.

I can't see any reason why he should remain free if charged for a crime of this magnitude.

I’ve read that an indictment usually follows closely on these target letters.

He did it to himself. If he had just accepted the election results and turned over the classified documents, he would not be in danger of going to jail, and would have a decent to good shot of winning in 2024. I don't see what he hoped to gain by all of this. He wasn't going to get the election results overturned, and he didn't need those documents.

He will, and I'm sure he's going to try to run out the clock, which will probably work. Even if he were convicted, he would appeal. Even if he were convicted, lost on appeal, and lost the election, I think there's a near zero chance of him ever seeing the inside of a prison.

Best case for him is getting back in the White House and exerting his retribution. Worst case for him is probably doing a reality tv show while living out his days under house arrest at Mar a Lago.
