Ever since Rabin died, it's been two bad actors acting badly.

Why go to all that trouble of deporting two-million Gazans ? Why not just send Netanyahu back to Poland ?

Isnt that what Israel believes? I mean Palestinians actually lived there. Zionism was dreamed up by Europeans who never lived there and took it by force. This is like saying "Crazy Horse sure did screw it up for the Native Americans."

Zealots from Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all believe the holy land belong to their religion. And descendants of all three religions have past claims on the land. So yes, Israel has the same belief.

The reality is it's Israel's land today, has been for decades, and they will defend it. Until the Palestinians accept this reality, there can be no peace. Having a hardliner like Bibi in charge of Israel makes it even harder for Palestinians to accept any possibility for peace.

I'm just saying the British mandate was pretty much all Arab, with a tiny Jewish minority. The people who actually lived there were Palestinians. European nationalism was full of made up national origins, Israel was a bible story, the Germans got all into Arminius and the mythology in Wagner operas. I think they have accepted the reality that Israelis arent just going to pack up and leave. But when are they going to abandon the idea that its their land too? Years in the future they will still have a story like the Israelites who were forced off their land and into Babylon, the basis of any national idea. Perhaps we will move beyond nationalism, but all I see is resurgent nationalism, everywhere.

When's the last time any group gave up their claim to the holy land? It's wash, rinse, repeat.

Its important to all the Abrahamic religions, but we all know who lived there in living memory until 1948, not in Bible times. It probably hits different if your grandfather was removed from his land and its not something you read in a book that maybe happened 2000 years ago. Just like Americans with the Native Americans, I assume the Israelis are betting in 100+ years, it will just be a story, and something you name your sports teams after.

Not to worry, Trump's already backpedaling from his earlier foolishness after a backlash from just about everyone on Earth with a brain.

If Trump can convince the Arab and Muslim States to take in the Palestinians, something which they have steadfastly refused to do for 80+ years, then … nice work, good job.

Likewise, the Arab and Muslim States just don’t want, and have never wanted, the Palestinians. They prefer to have the Evil Empires of USA snd Israel to finger-point away all of the troubles they each face.

Pretty sure Trump just threw this nonsense out there to distract from the illegality he and his criminal counterparts in DOGE are undertaking.

While I generally agree Israel has had prime ministers who were amenable to a two state solution since Rabin died, Ehad Barak coming immediately to mind. Although that description is applicable to the periods in which Netanyahu has been PM it's not quite 100 percent accurate.
