the funny thing is that - in September - Biden attempted to limit asylum claims (by rule, not legislation) based upon an arbitrary standard (once X number of border crossing happen in a day)

a patently transparent "we're tough on the border" election hail mary

Yeah, didn't think you had a link showing we let in 10-20 million. Thanks for confirming.

Since Jan 2021 there have been more than 8 million "encounters" with illegal border crossers on the southern border.

It's not at all unreasonable to think that perhaps 20 million were not encountered.

unfortunately, I don’t have facts on this topic other than the amount of western Union transactions for sending money to Mexico. This article says $63 billion. That is a lot of money being sent back “home”.

I don’t believe many in the US believe in American Exceptionalism and isolationism at the same time. “Not our problem” lacks foresight. Trading partners with LatAm is big to the US. China is looking to move into LatAm.

$63 billion in remittances sent to Mexico, mostly from US in 2023

I don’t think it is the exception, but would be open to some facts. I look at cash transactions as empirical evidence. We have to have a consistent policy across the globe. If we are going to care about Uyghurs, we can care about LatAm kids, mostly Christian if that floats someone’s boat.

OT: It’s “slow-cala”. It’s the way we referred to Ocala as kids. Miles of nothing to do.

Even in their fevered dreams, it would obviously take years. They’re gonna do some stunt, probably with some low hanging fruit that the media bubble focused on (like those actually LEGAL Haitian immigrants in Springfield Ohio). And of course those who assure everyone they are in favor of *legal* immigration will cheer wildly.

Maybe they’ll go after the supposed gang in Aurora CO. I don’t doubt that type of gang activity exists, but I’m also sure there aren’t nationally material numbers of them hanging around an apartment complex waiting to get caught.

Obama deported almost 5 million. Can you point out any times you complained about that back in the day? We all know the answer to that...

I suspect that Trump and the boys will withdraw the Temporary Protecedt Status of Haitians in Springfield, Ohio as well as those residing elsewhere with the same status, declare them illegal and begin deporting them. Besides the unthinkable cruelty of sending them back to a truly dysfunctional country, the deportations will seriously damage the economies of the communities where they currently reside.
Vance says Haitian migrants with protected status are 'illegal aliens' to be deported

I was not at all against that and trusted that admin was rightly focused on criminals (as opposed to alleging Haitians eat pets). Righties used to claim open borders back then too. Thanks for proving it was a lie back then just as it is now (Biden has nearly matched Obama’s record in just 4 years).

8 million "encounters" with southern border crossers... 10+ million overall

"encounters" aren't put on a bus and sent back.

They're issued NTAs and sent on their way.

can you imagine the poverty and increase in immigration if that money wasn't being sent back to Mexico to help feed them and foster economic activity there

It is probably going to the “coyotes” and extortion gangs. It’s not a good situation. A policy of creating jobs in Mexico and LatAm would be a better choice to drive economics to stay and nation build, although Americans have to get behind the idea of non-conflict nation building. Universities in the US should open satellite campuses all through LatAm.

And what percentage of 'encounters' do you think end up staying in the US?

Dude, that was Kamala levels of word salad. So you are good with deporting illegals. Glad we are on the same page. Appreciate it.

You posted something about encounters, which actually showed there were less than 10 million encounters in the last 4 years. But I haven't seen you post anything that backs up your claim that we let in 10-20 million. Can you find some verification for that claim and link it? Thanks.
