Although most dramatic increase in the deficit occurred during the pandemic year of 2020, the best examples of the fiscal irresponsibility of Trump and the Republicans were actually 2018 and 2019 when they managed to increase the deficit during a period of near record low unemployment. It takes real incompetence to increase the deficit during a peacetime period of record low unemployment, interestingly following Trump's only legislative "accomplishment" the budget busting tax cut bill of 2017.

I would also add that he could have avoided the indictment for mishandling classified documents and the related charge of obstruction of justice if he simply returned the documents when requested rather than trying to squirrel them away and then lying to the court regarding the disposition of the documents.

Wow! That pretty much sums up the absolutely pathetic Democratic position. If he had just kept his mouth shut….

    Delusional in the extreme.

As you well know, he hasn't been indicted for his nonstop whining and crying. That's pathetic . . . but not criminal.

No, he's been indicted for breaking multiple federal and state laws in a failed attempt to illegally overturn the fair and verified election of his opponent. Your life-long con man mistakenly thought he could get away with it.

The regurgitation of the absolutely pathetic Republican position both implying that Trump is being prosecuted because he is running for the presidency in 2024 and/or because he exercised his right under the First Amendment to complain about the results of the 2020 election while ignoring the facts that he supported an illegal scheme involving the use fraudulent electors, attempted to illegally persuade state officials to find votes that weren't there and instigated a violent attack on the Capitol to prevent the certification of state election results. Trump is not being prosecuted because he floated the absurd false narrative of massive voter fraud or because he and supporters used their legal remedies of challenging the election in court over 60 times or for demanding recounts in multiple states sometimes even multiple recounts in the same state.

One other point regarding that exhibit. The very high deficit in 2009 reflects Bush Jr's last budget as he left office during the Bush Recession.

Exactly. FY 2009 began in October 1, 2008 and submitted to Congress months prior to that date.

Fraud happens in every election. But usually at such a minuscule scale, it's irrelevant. Several studies of US elections put fraud rates at between 1 in 50,000 and 1 in 100,000 votes. 2020 looks to fit this pattern. To put how small an issue this is, Trump needed over 10k votes in several states to overturn the election. Even at 1 in 50,000 votes being fraudulent, there's not enough fraud votes to overturn one state in question, let alone three.

And Trump isn't being indicted for his words alone. Trump and his co-conspirators orchestrated a scheme to send fake electors to Washington to try and steal the election. Any other politician ever try anything like this? Trump also tried to bully state officials to overturn the election. Just claim fraud and leave everything else to Trump, right? Again, show me a quote life this one by any other politician, please. Furthermore, show me another politician that has a rally and directed that mob towards the Capital Building.

Words alone aren't always covered by free speech. Especially when they are part of a larger conspiracy to commit a crime. Yell fire in a burning building and pull the alarm to save people, and you may be hailed a hero. Yell fire and pull the alarm in a building where there's no fire, but several co-conspirators waiting to pick pockets in the panic you created, and if caught, you'll be facing criminal charges. Same words and action by you, but completely different outcomes. Again, in regards to Trump, show me other politicians who engaged in a fake elector scheme....

And we be far less in the hole with Republican presidents , especially the most recent one, and Republican legislators actually practiced what they preached regarding fiscal responsibility. Said it many times before while Democrats may accurately be described as the party of tax and spend and Republicans going back to Reagan are the party of borrow and spend.

you can indict a ham sammy, so who gives a crap.

so he failed in his attempt to overturn an election? That sounds very criminal like. What exactly was Donald Trump going to do to overturn the election? Cyber attack? Break in? How does one attempt to overturn an election in a criminal manner? Don’t point me towards an indictment or link. Tell me in your own words the illegal actions a person can engage in to overturn an election. Also, tell me what legal actions that same person can take to overturn the same election.

you seem very invested in your position, so responding to my questions should be easy.

Two more graphs essentially showing the same, but I added the Total & Percent increase numbers by political party of the president since WWII.

    Democrats:11.68T/Avg=21.31%
    Republicans: 13.95T/Avg=52.44%

    Got questions?

Read the indictments. That would tell any honest person what they need to know.

    In your case, don't bother.

Any evidence from 2020 that shows fraud was greater than 1 in 50,000? Or do you need to go back 6 decades for some potential, actual proof?

As for the Trump illegal actions Trump wanted to give VP Pence unconstitutional, read illegal power to reject certified state results, and inject fake, read illegal, electors in their place. If successful, Trump would have unconstitutionally remained in power after legally losing the 2020 election. For details on this alleged illegal conspiracy scheme, read the GA and last Smith indictments.
