and there in lies the problem, it is put together by scholars- scholars are usually way to the left so I am pretty sure this graph just reflects their liberalism
These polls against Trump are a weird flex considering he just humiliated Kamala head to head. The successor of a "great" president (just look at our polls!) who happens to have one of the worst approval ratings in history who was also "sharp as a tac" -- until reality kicked in. Then the ones screaming loudest about losing democracy force fed Kamala as the candidate when nobody wanted her in the primaries. Then all of a sudden, she's the next greatest thing, may be as great as Obama (look at our polls!) and she ran an AMAZING campaign not answering questions or doing interviews or having thoughts on policy (look at our celebrities, we are HAPPY). Such an amazing candidate only to be beaten by a twice impeached felon who is the absolute worst president in our history (look at our polls!). Seems to me you all are just out here practicing a routine that you nailled 100% but still lost you the medal. I'll save you some time and effort, time to teach that pony a new trick.
Winning something called "patriot of the year" is like winning child molester of the year in my book, but given the overlap of the two in Trump world, its extra fitting.
almost as weird as Dear Leader and his followers complaining this election “is rigged” and trump encouraging violence and “civil war”. But as soon as he realized he won, it all stopped. but, we will have a maga congress and potus. He’s being handed a good economy. No more avoiding responsibility. Although he’s not off to a good start nominating maga conspiracy theorists and sexual predators.
Here’s a guy who, when he lost an election, spent the next four years whining and making false claims to undermine democracy. Patriot? If “patriotism” means “inflate my and my friends’ finances,” then sure. And no, there is no evidence of widespread election fraud in 2020, no matter what far right media and people cosplaying experts claim to say. Alleged evidence was provided in court and dismissed. The sad part is that Trump and his brand of grievance-based populism is exactly what the Founders feared. The man cares little for the rule of law, save where it serves his purposes. Tom Nichols wrote on this: The Moment of Truth I’m sure his usual defenders here will bloviate about how, in fact, everyone was mean to the billionaire and that he actually does love democracy, but I suspect they don’t even believe that. This smells like the myriad of hollow medals given to despots like Kim Jong Un, Pol Pot, Gaddafi, etc. to inflate their egos and provide a veneer of legitimacy. It’s honestly pretty goddamn sad. (And yes, I think he won 2024 legitimately. Yes, I do think democracy is going to suffer. Handing key Admin jobs to architects of the “post-Constitutional” Project 2025 (their words) makes that pretty clear.)
Approval and disapproval isn't a be all and end all. When Truman left office his approval rating was among the lowest in history. He is now considered a near great president. While Biden was probably overrated he's at least in the top 50%. Under Biden Congress enacted the most significant infrastructure bill since the Interstate Highway Act was signed into law by Eisenhower in 1956. Even Republicans who voted against the legislation are taking credit for projects funded by the Act. Thanks to Biden's Inflation Reduction Act and Chips and Science Act there have been more new manufacturing facilities conducted in his administration than in decades. Construction’s manufacturing boom: Mapping the biggest facilities underway in the US Biden's low approval is the result of three factors. First, there was the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan which was essentially set up by Trump before he left office; there was the perception that Biden was responsible for the inflation of 2022 although inflation in the US was lower than in most other industrial countries and that the US experienced a stronger post-Covid recovery than virtually every other Western industrial country; and finally because he isn't very articulate for a politician much less a president there has been the perception that he is incompetent.
The American people disagreed with you, but I get it, the minority to the far left think they decide what is true for all, so... Point is he was popular. American's liked his policies and even dems respected him. Americans think Biden is a disaster.
But you have to admit Tilly, even your own admiration of Reagan was based heavily on myth. When I presented shitloads of evidence of his taxing & spending you admitted being unaware. Reagan was no friend of economic or personal freedom - prob why he's popular. & hell, what was inf on 12/6/88? Anyone? Bueller?
Reagan was a good figurehead. He wasn't the greatest prez. It was during his admin that "A Nation at Risk" was published, bringing forth another failing back-to-basics movement in public K-12 education. The economy was a disaster during his admin and I recognize that it was a disaster from the Carter admin, but Reagan wasn't particularly effective at lowering the deficit; quite the opposite. Biden was a much better prez than you will ever give him credit for. Great point. Why trust political scholars, you know, experts who study policy and actual evidence. Much better to trust the public, what with all that amazing intellectual awareness.
I agree Reagan should be ahead of Biden, but I don’t know how you assert he is a bottom quartile president. He accomplished a fair amount in just 4 years. The knocks against him were inflation, which maybe he takes 10-20% of the blame for (and yet doesn’t get credit for the stronger economy) and the optics of Afghanistan exit. I’ve not heard anybody articulate what a better Afghan strategy was. We were there 20 years and it crumbled like a house of cards upon exit, and that’s Biden’s fault. The only plausible alternative would have been to leave a permanent residual force there, and at the time NOBODY wanted that, apart from some generals and military strategists. He was clearly too old by the end, but that didn’t seem to affect the overall tangible accomplishments of his administration. It did cause his popularity ratings to fall because he was too feeble to speak to the public in any meaningful way.
What does this say about approximately half of our population? (The half who voted for Trump in case that's not clear.)
At this point in maga world any potus with a D after their name is at the bottom of the list and may as well be the devil incarnate.
