Are you nuts? The Obama administration had Hillary hand Putin a freaking "Reset" button. That's how desperate Obama was to re-establish normal relations with the Stalin-worshipping Putin. How did Putin respond? By invading Crimea. That's how restrained they were. They have invaded multiple neighbors since Putin took power, so that wasn't Putin's first invasion. If Putin wants to play marauding imperialist, then he deserves whatever destruction that a proxy war and international sanctions can conjure up for him.

If Putin would stop invading neighbors, maybe the U.S. State Department would be less interested in seeing him removed from office.

"Russia's little brother" Serbia was bombed by the US For 78 days after their province of Kosovo decided to declare independence.

And we know that NATO was hostile to Russia and split it into 18-32 countries according to various plans.

The war was always going to end on Russia's terms. NATO and Ukraine started the war, Russia finished it. We knew this one day 1.

They say the richest people in Europe now are Ukrainians. Their money came from NATO countries of course

Trump administration orders Pentagon to plan for sweeping budget cuts

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered senior leaders at the Pentagon and throughout the U.S. military to develop plans for cutting 8 percent from the defense budget in each of the next five years, according to a memo obtained by The Washington Post and officials familiar with the matter — a striking proposal certain to face internal resistance and strident bipartisan opposition in Congress.

Hegseth ordered the proposed cuts to be drawn up by Feb. 24, according to the memo, which is dated Tuesday and includes a list of 17 categories that the Trump administration wants exempted. Among them: operations at the southern U.S. border, modernization of nuclear weapons and missile defense, and acquisition of submarines, one-way attack drones and other munitions.

The Pentagon budget for 2025 is about $850 billion, with broad consensus on Capitol Hill that extensive spending is necessary to deter threats posed by China and Russia, in particular. If adopted in full, the proposed cuts would include tens of billions of dollars in each of the next five years.

We spend a lot on military, $850B/yr. Trump/Hegseth’s cuts would reduce costs significantly that can be used for trumps desired tax cuts.

But these defense cuts will make us weaker militarily. A concern is China. Our key advisory with a military that is getting stronger with smarter weapons.

Putting out an aggressive goal and asking leaders to achieve it is a reasonable action even if you don't like the plan or goals. I have no issues with a smaller military.

Randomly firing and ending federal programs you have no idea what they do is the actions of a mad man.

Yeah, not upset with this at all on the surface.

I've always said if I became president I'd tell all departments they need to internally trim 20% of their budget and if they couldn't accomplish it someone else then could do it for them .

This would reduce defense spending to around $560 Billion in 2030. That's not going to happen.

8% should be easy peasy & why is it assumed the military can't be stronger, not weaker? I certainly do not think there is a monotonic relationship between spending & strength

8% off the top, agree. But 8% each year for 5 years, cuts into meat. weapons systems and manpower. We won’t be as strong - maybe that’s ok. China has more buying power with their defense budget. Not to mention they just steal their R&D. But not sure what a good target cut for us should be.
