I believe it matters. Less time to study the candidate and prep. I know folks will say there's plenty of time to prep, but this is a change of direction for both campaigns.

They didn't back out as a party like trumph is trying to do. They stopped the "elderly abuse" and he made a sacrifice by bowing out. Why would you meed to change the debate because of that? All of a sudden ABC and George are liberal hacks when it was just fine when he thought he was debating the old guy. Now HE is the old guy and needs all the help he thinks he needs. Show you have balls and show up as promised. Saying it was with Biden and not Harris is disingenuous when it comes to this situation.

Watch him not even debate. Chicken shit diaper wearing old washed up yellow stale cheeto.

I'll let you read Davis's answer above. He said it perfectly...
...now as for your other views on Trump. I agree. ;)

We have 90 some odd days, too bad so sad. I guess her laugh or the question of her blackness isn't enough? You can get all you want to know because she was Biden's VP. Sheesh.

It was truly bold. How many times in history can you name a party replacing its candidate a mere four months before an election? Kind of sounds like sour grapes to declare it weak. But each to their own, I guess

Pubs spent 4 years clowning the Dems for having a geriatric whose mind was deteriorating by the day as the face of the Democratic Party. It was all fun and games and memes and “Sleepy Joe” nicknames and “Grandpa needs his nap” quips and making fun of him staring off into space and mumbling and stumbling around. So when the Dems rectify the problem by replacing him, now they cry foul. That’s the Republican Party in 2024 for you, full of unseriousness lol.

The Democrats can change the candidate, without a primary. But the Republicans can't change which network hosts a debate after the candidate change. Sounds perfectly reasonable.

I support having no more debates. Anyone making an electoral decision based on what amounts to a t.v. reality show with soundbites is not an informed voter.

Very bold by the hitting team to not show up at the batter’s box to face the next pitcher. Very bold.

Again this is such a bizarre view. It seems like you are really going out of your way to create a “both sides suck” rationalization.

Biden debated. He didn’t have to. It backfired on him. As a result he bowed out under intense pressure from his party. Yes that should have happened sooner, and I wasn’t pleased in retrospect with those that were hiding the degree of his decline but ultimately the right result came about.

Do you agree Biden dropping out was the right thing? Not just politically for the Democrats, but for the good of the country? If so, you are basically characterizing doing the right thing as running scared.

As to participating in a debate, or not, that isn’t such a right or wrong thing. It’s a political decision. So accusing him of running scared, which he truly is, is fair game.

Having said that dropping out of the ABC debate and demanding Fox do it was probably a shrewd move for Trump. That allows him a counter argument to equivocate on the issue if there is no debate, and gives him and advantage if she agrees.

Once again the debate was between the Democratic nominee and the Republican nominee with the assumption being that Biden would be the Democratic nominee and that Trump would be the Republican nominee since both were the presumptive nominees of their respective parties. They do not become the formal nominees until their party conventions. Trump is the Republican nominee, Harris is virtually certain to be the Democratic nominee. Whether he was pressured to withdraw or his decision was completely voluntary Biden is no longer the Democratic nominee and Trump doesn't have the balls to debate his replacement. Trump assumed that he would be debating a gaffe-prone cognitively diminished opponent who on his best days had a tendency to hesitate when responding to questions. He would now be facing a skilled confident debater who will not let him get away with telling multiple outright lies and has apparently decided to withdraw from the debate.

While I agree that sound bites can often carry the day, I believe that the contrast in composure, policy, and mental quickness during debates can be beneficial to non-partisan voters. The last debate showed that while Trump merely maintained his fabrications, Biden struggled to inspire confidence. Without that debate, many undecided voters would have been uncertain about Biden's acuity.

A debate between Harris and Trump could highlight how unserious and ill-equipped Trump is to lead right now when seen along side a younger, more articulate candidate with actual policies.

Surprised this thread hasn’t been shelved. Will the liberal hot housecontinue to howl that Trump refuses to debate Harris while he’s debating Harris ?
