Weirdly, DeSantis' best shot would largely be to out-Trump him. Toe the line of going full-on anti-vax. That is a weakness for Trump in the Republican Party. Play up Trump's role on vaccines (which Trump wouldn't be able to resist) and use it to shed anti-vax Trump voters off of him. Accuse him of bowing to the woke mob by getting rid of the child separation policy. Then, the most tricky one but the one that would seal it, accuse Trump of incompetence as the reason he wasn't able to overturn the election results. None of the three are really mainstream positions, but, as wgb said, this is about vibes and I think this could work with the Republican Primary electorate in terms of the vibe they would like.

Not in the 17 posts before mine on this thread and not with the Fox stamp of approval in the background. ;) Sorry it chaffed ya.

Everything but the election could be considered meaningless.. and the GOP even thinks that’s meaningless.;) ;)

He ran unopposed in the primaries in 2020. I guess the party is tiring of his histrionics and criminal predisposition.

If Trump wants it, and isn’t in jail or seriously ill, I don’t see how he loses the primary. About half of the Republican Party are absolutely married to him, because of who he is. It will probably be similar to 2016. Plus I don’t know if Desantis can survive getting torched, neutered and publicly humiliated by Trump when Trump alpha dogs him.

because liberals and moderates voted Biden. Moderates won’t carry the Republican primary.

I want to be clear - I think desantis is the superior candidate and he could probably sleepwalk to a victory in 2024 but I just don’t think he has the stones to beat out trump head to head for the crazy right of the Republican Party.

Yeah, and even if you entertained the idea that someone could put together a coalition to primary him, the GOP would never allow it to happen. It would destroy the party over night.

They’ll spend their energy trying to convince him not to run. If they fail, they’ll ensure everyone of note does their duty and falls in line behind him. DS will probably be given the VP slot and promised a Hillary style coronation in 28.

Oh, whoa....didn't think of that. Intriguing & seems possible. But, I wonder if Ron would fear a disaster.

The election is over two years out. a lot can happen. Their, new candidates make a impact, changing political landscape, family, etc.
for example - just over a year before 2016 trump’s odd were 25-1 (Jeb!) and for 2020, trump entered the year as the fav.
