That assumes that Trump as a third party candidate would actually carry some states. While theoretically possible the more likely scenario would be somewhat similar to the 2000 election in which Ralph Nader drew enough votes from Gore to enable Bush to carry Florida or even 2016 in which Jill Stein drew votes away from Hillary Clinton possibly throwing the election in MI, WI and PA to Trump.

Trump will be 78 on Election Day 2024. Impact of age is relative for each person, but with so much concern on Biden’s age, surprised trumps age is never mentioned. If elected, trump will be 82 in his last year.

are all states 100% electoral votes or do some do proportional? seems I recall a proportional scenario where Trump could come in third in the popular vote but get enough to prevent 270 and end up as potus. Maybe it was MAGA imagination at work..

Maine is partially by congressional district and Nebraska awards its electoral votes entirely by congressional district. The rest are winner-take-all statewide.

If elected, Trump will have the maturity of a pre-teen in his last year.

All Trump mentions: good lord loser, this clown is gone, he lives in your head rent free, get over it!

Same lecturers: I will vote for Trump in 2024, the continuous campaign since the 1980’s has been my life.

So, you're saying he can exhibit some growth.

this isn't really a joke. He does not have the emotional maturity of the avg pre teen.

What his supporters find attractive about Trump is his odd combination of the qualities of a senile old man and an emotionally immature preteen.

Since DeSantis is a bully too, that would be 2 bullies debating. It would be a total shitshow. A quote from one of DeSantis's Yale teammates:

“He has always loved embarrassing and humiliating people. I’m speaking for others — he was the biggest d---k we knew.”

Lol... DeSantis has expressed interest in running for Governor one more time. And he needs money for that, so... perfect way to generate funds now it to let that ambiguity saute...

Trump will murder Desantis in a debate. And it's because he'll be in between a rock and a hard place. If he attacks trump full force he risks alienating a lot of republican voters, and if he holds back, he'll look like Jeb from 2016.

The wishcasting here on the DeSantis debate claim is pretty extreme. They want to pretend that the 2016 candidates didn't throw the sink at Donald Trump on debate stages. From pointing out that he had no clue on policy to the pettiness of references to him having a small penis, they went after him in debate after debate. It didn't matter.

Maybe, but as governor DeSantis has done nothing but confirm what the Yale classmate said. DeSantis is a vindictive d--k who likes to humiliate anyone who crosses him.

I agree. Like the old saying (Mike Tyson?) about people having a plan until they get hit. DeSantis may have the skills and composure to shut Trump down. But I don't think we will know how it plays out unless and until we get there. As an additional consideration, while most Rs will support whoever wins, I'm not sure that DeSantis would want to risk alienating MAGA by really going after Trump in the same personal, insulting way that Trump would probably go after him. I doubt he would insult the looks of DeSantis' wife, and who knows what angle of attack he'd come up with.

Increasingly, there's a part of me that thinks Trump may simply bow out and claim victory somehow.

If the worst case scenario plays out and Trump wins the presidential election, that will be his second term and he has to go away after that right? What would he have to change to get rid of the term limit for President? If all he needs is a pliant Supreme Court then that is what I would worry about.

It’s possible that big Ron is an ass. I’m hoping for the best because I really don’t want Trump again.
I’ll keep an open mind because people are ugly and all kinds of crap will get out there the closer we get to that election.
