Along with 6 years in Congress, where he chaired the Subcommittee on National Security of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability. I think that is a pretty good base to start from.

If they indeed do this (replace Hegseth), he will sail through. Just like Bondi.

Don’t ask me. I wouldn’t want to be an elected official at all.

For SECDEF? Interesting. I still say he would make a better NSA.

Who is the biggest name in the MAGA world that is a flat earther? It would only make sense if they were selected to run NASA

Although I personally despise Ron DeSantis he doesn't have any of Hegseth's baggage and he is much more qualified for the position of Sec. of Defense than the former Fox Infotainment star.

Again. Infinitely better choice than Hegseth.

Question: If you're DeSantis, do you want this? Or, do you hold out for Senate seat that is essentially his to lose?

Seems like he could do both. Take the secretary gig, add it to the resume, then run for Senate in 2 years.

I asked this question earlier and it seems the high profile Secretary positions (State, Defense, Treasury) are preferable to Senate seats. Rubio is an example.

I don't like this horsetrading... just to get his daughter-in-law in the Senate. Pete must stay on as the nominee.

Would be reasonable to do. But he has to remember that if trump’s 1st term is any indicator, that there will be a churn of cabinet secretaries. Get in. Get your name in the media. Don’t overshadow trump and get fired. Would be a lock for the senate.

IDK. Look at Scott. The guy is the worst candidate ever and yet is still there. D's in Florida have nothing to offer, so it would be a lifetime seat. IDK, maybe he's more focused on a POTUS run in '28, but it would be hard to pass that Senate seat up, especially when you consider how easy it would be to take.

And I agree with Bill. I don't want Plastic-Surgery Face to be our next Senator. Appoint a flunky who will step aside when it's time to run in 2 years. Plastic Surgery Face knows better than to challenge DeSantis for that seat. Plastic Surgery Face's only chance is to be appointed and run against someone other than DeSantis.

I don’t like DeSantis at all but he is well qualified and mostly a serious person. I am sure he will grandstand on woke issues and such but overall I’d mostly trust him to competently lead the dept. and far prefer him to Hegadeath.

Saw two different people on the Sunday morning shows say that Hegseth currently has the votes to be approved.
