Said it several times before, Trump used the word "peaceful" once in an extremely inflammatory close to hour long speech. It's rather obvious that he wasn't expecting his audience to peacefully demonstrate outside of the Capitol building.

 

Is it that simple? You characterize something as “obvious” and it makes it so?

In that case, can I say that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris “obviously” wanted someone to try and assassinate Trump in characterizing him as a Hitlerian figure and an existential threat to democracy?

 

One mention of "peaceful." 22 mentions of "fight" or "fighting."

 

Yes, because politicians never use the word “fight” in a figurative context.

I haven't counted these - maybe I'm just short of "dozens" but does this sound like a peaceful speech? One line about peacefully while the rest is riling people up about how the election was stolen.

"All of us here today do not want to see our election victory stolen by emboldened radical-left Democrats, which is what they're doing. And stolen by the fake news media. That's what they've done and what they're doing."

"And to use a favorite term that all of you people really came up with: We will stop the steal."

"We will not let them silence your voices. We're not going to let it happen, I'm not going to let it happen. (Audience chants: "Fight for Trump.") Thank you."

Nothing wrong with 78 years old unless one is cognitively diminished like Trump. He has confused Biden and Obama multiple times and during the Republican primary campaign he confused Nikki Haley and Nancy Pelosi. Mitt Romney is 77 years old and would still make a very good president. Cognitively Donald Trump is nowhere close to Mitt Romney.

You backtracked on the second impeachment not being about inciting an insurrection.

You backtracked on Trump saying the opposite of “peacefully protest” a dozen times.

We’ve come all the way to “does this sound like a peaceful speech?”

I don’t know, but I know if you can draw a direct line between that speech and the Capitol riots, you can certainly draw a line between characterizing Trump as a Hitlerian figure and an existential threat to Democracy and assassination attempts on Trump.

If it’s true that “democracy is at stake” and Trump is a “Hitlerian figure,” a whole lot of reasonable people would go back and kill Hitler before he came to power to prevent a World War and the death of 6,000,000 Jews.

 

I just gave you 20+ examples of inflammatory language and this is after Trump had been told that there were people in the crowd with weapons but he didn't care because "they're not here to hurt me."

Nice goalpost shifting from Trump telling people to peacefully protest, but I get it because there's no other way to continue to defend that speech, it's aftermath, and the complete inaction by Trump as the sitting President to stop what was happening at the Capitol.

If you can explain away that, what are you complaining about rhetoric for? Unless someone is literally saying "kill them" its all figurative isnt it? And even then someone would probably call it figurative depending on the context!

 

By your own logic, I could just say that Trump said "And we fight. We fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore" to close his speech, so it doesn't matter that he said peacefully, is that right? Especially since he closed with that and the peacefully line was buried in the middle. He was impeached for his "fight like hell" speech.

You're right that I didn't initially realize you were referring to the impeachment instead of the indictment, which I acknowledged.

Ultimately you said that he was impeached for telling people to peacefully protest. I provided 20 examples of inflammatory language, including telling people to fight like hell as he closed his speech as opposed to saying peacefully once in the middle. The truth may be inconvenient for you, but that wasn't a speech with a message of peace. Nor did he act after the violence began at the Capitol despite his aids and family begging him to try to calm his supporters. He only did so hours after the violence started

Now feel free to ignore the actual point and only respond about me backtracking or how I'm wrong about saying you were shifting the goalposts.
