Let me tell you. It’s going to be the best kakistocracy. The best, let me tell you, and Brawndo founder, super smart guy, Brandon founder told me I had the best koala brains. More than anyone ever before. The biggest brains. They all love America, USA! USA! The navy one? He likes boats. All boats. He owns a boat. Bit boat. A boater the other day told me in tears that he has the best boats. He knows we need more boats.

Please explain how a Mayor (who has to deal with substantial transportation issues including public transit, road construction, and, often management of other infrastructure related to transportation) is not experienced in regards to transportation issues? The top Republican on the relevant committee praised his "credentials" for the position during his confirmation hearing.

First, no it isn't half the size of Gainesville. Second, yes, the Mayor of a town of over 100k deals with transportation issues. How big of a population does a town need to have to deal with issues related to infrastructure and transportation, in your opinion?

Seems ill suited for leading the Navy.

For comparison here is the current Secretary's resume:

Born in Havana, Cuba, Del Toro immigrated to the U.S. with his family as refugees in 1962. Raised in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of New York City, he attended public schools and received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. Secretary Del Toro was commissioned as a Surface Warfare Officer upon his graduation in 1983.

He holds a Masters in National Security Studies from the Naval War College, a Masters in Space Systems Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a Masters in Legislative Affairs from George Washington University.

His 22-year naval career included a series of critical appointments and numerous tours of duty at sea – including First Commanding Officer of the guided missile destroyer USS Bulkeley (DDG 84); Senior Executive Assistant to the Director for Program Analysis and Evaluation in the Office of the Secretary of Defense; and Special Assistant to the Director and Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget – where he helped manage the budgets of DOD, the U.S. Department of State, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the National Reconnaissance Office, and the Peace Corps.

After retiring at the rank of Commander, Secretary Del Toro founded SBG Technology Solutions, Inc. in 2004. As its CEO and President, he supported defense programs across a host of immediate and long-term Department of Navy issue areas, including shipbuilding, AI, cybersecurity, acquisition programs, space systems, health, and training.

Well, good news. South Bend population: 103,395. 103,395>101,000. Glad that we worked that out!

Got through 2 1/2 pages without anyone noticing he serves on the Board of Spirit of America. That organization is doing a lot of very interesting things that no one really talks about.

    About

The next SecNav's job is going to be dealing with the Defense Industry and trying to fix our country's ability to build ships in a way that makes financial sense. I'd expect he will be addressing AFCEA West Conference at the end of January. If he does, I'll let the board know how it went.

So, is that it? MAGA is satisfied with his nomination because “he was on the board” of the SoA and that qualifies him to head up the navy. No mention, of course, that he’s a hardcore Trump supporter and major donor.

Do you have any idea what SoA does?

Had this conversation with a buddy the other day, when you are in one of these top posts, you’re there for your leadership and management experience and most of your job is going to be managing up and out and not down and in. The SecNav is not being hired because he/she knows a lot about building ships, they are hired because they understand how to lead an organization and can speak the language of the people they need to interact with.
