In what was seen as support for DeSantis, the state GOP decided in May to require candidates to support the GOP nominee. Now, in what's seen as a win for Trump, they changed their minds.
Trump has more power than DeSantis in the Florida GOP?

Desantis is really tanking and I think how the FL republicans are abandoning him speaks to how many seem to think he is an asshole.

This is really stunning when we look back and saw how almost omnipotent DeSantis was in Florida. It’s insane how much power he lost when exposing his true self to the nation

Doesn’t this mean DeSantis no longer has to support Trump? He’s not sniffing the nomination so this seems to do more for DeSantis than Trump at this point.

Desantis was a time bomb. Even sycophants on here are distancing themselves to sniff trumps butt again.

That was my take on it too. Now that trump is all but inevitable they are saying they will not hold members to that oath “Go out and support whoever you want”.

You really think DeSantis would consider supporting Biden if it's Trump-Biden?

The reason for the loyalty oath was pretty clear. If DeSantis lost the nomination to Trump, would he act like a decent human being, accept it and support the person who beat him? Or would he act like a vindictive, petulant, whining baby?
He's never lost an election has he,so we don't know.
We know how Trump would respond.

There's a reason it was Trump supporters who fought against the loyalty oath.

IMO, if Chy-na Ron wants a political future, he’ll kiss Trump’s ass again

I always thought this pledge was a terrible thing. In a moment where many claim (rightly, imo) that dissenting views are increasingly shut down, the GOP itself fought viewpoint diversity by trying to force all candidates to support all others, regardless of their differences.

So I’m happy to see this drawn down in Florida, but the motivation seems to be much more about voting for Trump than allowing dissenting voices, which is less admirable to my lights.

Not in a million years - but are there not degrees of support that range from appearing at his rallies to going silent down to saying I'll vote for trump but he is a POS that is bad for the country.

Well. We all said when they started distancing themselves from Trump for Ron they were only doing it because Ron seemed like the favorite and Trump unelectable. They didn't do it over ethical or moral reasons. And now as they flock back to Trump we can see that's 100% accurate.

Politically Ron DeSantis is a dead man walking. Reiterating several previous posts, the only question now is will DeSantis drop out before the first primary/caucus like Scott Walker, the 2-term Republican governor of Wisconsin and a one time favorite for the 2016 Republican nomination or wait until he is shellacked in the first couple of primaries before dropping out like Jeb Bush another 2-term governor and one time favorite for the 2016 nomination.
