No, not what I'm suggesting at all. Just call them out for who they are and stop doing them any favors. And when you see bullshit - like their DEI press releases - call it out or at least give it a the eye roll it deserves. These people aren't our friends and their "ethical thinking" goes no further than next month's bonus check. I'm not saying they're evil, just feckless prisoners of a complete abomination of Adam Smith's theories.

And you are right. Not ALL are such prisoners. Maybe 1% break the mold, but even those are people like Scott Galloway who are rich enough pull it off with no consequences to themselves.

Which is probably why they don't write anything down officially. Doesn't mean it isn't happening though. Just like discrimination in the justice system. The laws and sentencing guidelines aren't written to say they punish black guys but we know what happens there.

you think the default is merit based? I’ve hired dozens of peeps for gov positions & never seen 1. My wife just wrote an ad for someone. This happens all the time. Before you hire, you know who you want so you write the ad so that they are very competitive & they are typically the 1 who gets it.

got drunk with a dude in Calgary. Found out he played drums. Volunteered to head the search committee. He beat out over 100 applicants & is my colleague to this day.

Hiring my replacement we only had 2 candidates. 1 with lots of exp & current head at LSU. 1 with 2 years of exp at Bellamine (???). When exp dude walks in I say, I see you when to Ohio State. he sez, no, I went to THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY. Candidate 2 got the job.

I would venture to say if there is widespread undocumented violation in hiring on terms of racial/gender preference, its benefiting white men, not minorities or women. This country is racist and misogynistic, not some post-racial/gender paradise lol. Corporations arent leading the civil rights or anti-racist movement and never have. The attack on DEI is a push back on even the idea that even officially saying there is a problem of racism and discrimination in American workplaces is unacceptable.

Yes, I did. When an officer of the company told me over the phone they were hiring a minority(all women included) and then they hire a minority, I guess in your world that is just a coincidence...

Here's 1 you'll like. I offered a guy a job to teach Bidness ethics because he had played trumpet with Ernest Ranglin. He turned it down to take a Philosophy job (his phd was in Phil).

So, you support DEI but not DEI driven hiring practices? Can we get a little deeper explanation of that?

I know a management-side attorney, its not 'easy' to fire anyone for cause if you are a large company with over 20 employees, or at least that's what he tells people who need his services. There's nothing factually wrong with my post, and I do know what I'm talking about. He advises anyone to document pretty much any interaction, disciplinary or performance related, have a clear code of conduct, etc. Exactly what I put in my post.

Yep. Within 30 seconds I knew the outcome of that search was either #2 or a failed search.

Only thing that would make this better is a big picture of the crying dad and his sons after the 2006 NC on the wall behind your desk.

I'll admit that I had to look him up. Kinda like Ska w some hardbop influence. In the 1min I heard sounds like he & the keyboard player have technical chops in addition to the authentic vibe. Reading the wiki and I see he basically played w all the Reggae stars. I'll have to check out more of his stuff, thanks.

You and your attorney source are speaking politically correct of course.
In reality…you know the real world, it’s a huge problem to hire the wrong person of color. If that person proves incompetent or a bad fit, it’s a big miss for the hiring company.
They know it and make it very difficult on employers.
    Thanks Obama.

Yes - when it comes to hiring or in my line of work, college admissions, I prefer to see the most qualified people be selected. Like I mentioned before, diversity, equity, and inclusion are more than hiring practices or AA. Just one example - we promote diversity among our visiting artists in my Dept because they offer unique artistic perspectives. We also bring in white guys. I try to embrace and model inclusion in my daily activities. What's the opposite of inclusion?
