I've seen the same sentiment expressed other places.

Now that is hilarious, pretending there are “conservatives” left in the Republican Party

Over 90 years ago Will Rogers said “I’m not a member of any organized political party…. I’m a Democrat.” In 2023 the same holds true only with the substitution of "Republican" for "Democrat". For the second time in less than a year the party is demonstrating that it is incapable of even electing a leader in the House of Representatives. It's not much of an exaggeration to describe the party as a clown show.

    Scalise is out!

WASHINGTON—Rep. Steve Scalise withdrew from contention for House speaker late Thursday, after clinching the Republican Party’s nomination but failing to win over a stubborn bloc of critics that stood between him and the gavel, the latest dramatic turn in the party’s leadership fight.

    Yeah, this is getting crazy.

I’m guessing the minority in the party, the nutbars, are just saying Jordan or bust? Good luck with that!

I read somewhere Scalice wasn’t even getting 150 votes, so actually, even less support than McCarthy? Seems they aren’t even close to figuring this out. How hard is it to just go with the solid majority. These people really hate democracy apparently, even when it comes to inter-party decisions.

So to play this out: no house, no funding, no government. Crash the economy as this drags on. Thanks gop!

If the worst case plays out, the hope is the remaining sane repubs will form a coalition with the dems so at least the government can function. Then the tantrum caucus should be expelled for the traitors they are.

    Not hypocritical.

I'm not saying the left is completely virtuous, either. But it's not even a comparison by any stretch to what is wrong with the gop.

The GOP happily let the smoothbrained extremists on the far right in, and now they won't be able to get them out. Que tragique.

they have reached out for terms. Hopefully the dems set some reasonable terms. too bad that Mcarthy was too boneheaded to accept terms the first time

Top House Republican Wants Help From Democrats to Pick a Speaker (msn.com)

The Republican leaders of two national security committees called for dramatic action to overcome the standoff in the election of a US House speaker, which has left the chamber paralyzed and unable to address aid to Israel or conduct any other business.

Armed Services Chairman Mike Rogers and Foreign Affairs Chairman Michael McCaul acknowledged Thursday that their party is unable to get 217 votes to elect a speaker solely on the backs of Republican support. Republicans can afford to lose only four votes if Democrats remain united behind Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

Rogers suggested Republicans might have to cut a deal with Democrats and called on Jeffries to spell out what concessions he would require to help the GOP elect a speaker.
    ...........................................
Jeffries indicated that Democrats were willing to work with Republicans, but he did not specify what his party would demand in return. An earlier power-sharing proposal was rejected by McCarthy before his historic ouster.

I'll believe it when I see it. A portion of the gop doesn't want to govern, they just want to burn it all down and install their orange god as some kind of emperor.
