Kind of illustrates the difference between the two parties. The Democrats are calling for the resignation of one of the their own who is under a felony indictment while the Republicans (or at least a number of them) want to elevate a certain individual under multiple indictments to the highest profile legislative position in the Republic.

Now there’s a rumor being floated that Democrats and some republicans are going to get together to elect an anti-MAGA Republican. The name being floated is Liz Cheney.

Actually no, that isn't a requirement to be Speaker.

Scalise seems like the leader at this point. The gang just needs a little vacation before voting after the past week.

Scalise is an interesting item. He was the victim of horrific political violence, almost died. Terrible. Now he has cancer, and has understandably asked those around him to mask after mocking masking before when it could impact other people. Still, he would deserve true human sympathy on both counts. But his politics are rancid. He hates the country as much as Gaetz and the rest of them do.

He was McCarthy's right hand man. I am sure he and McCarthy discussed a lot of their political decisions so it should be more of the same

Your logic makes sense, but I don't know that anyone can project anything

Agreed, but new blood and not the obvious history of blatant prevarication.

He has about a 68% chance at living another five years, so I doubt he’s a good bet to take the Speakers position. Interesting though that multiple myeloma mainly attacks African Americans.

Don't know whether this is accurate or not but I wouldn't doubt it.

That’s ugly. And personally, I cringed reading this:

Citing his Catholicism, Scalise said “these groups hold views that are vehemently opposed to my own personal faith, and I reject that kind of hateful bigotry. Those who know me best know I have always been passionate about helping, serving and fighting for every family that I represent. And I will continue to do so.”

I agree that bigotry is irreconcilable with the Catholic faith, but plenty reconcile those two just fine. Wish it were otherwise

Unless Trump decides to anoint Jim Jordan which is not beyond the realm of possibility, Steve Scalise will be the next Speaker of the House.

Scalise is vehemently against LGBT rights, ACA and Medicaid expansion, cannabis legalization and rejects Global Warming.

He has an A+ rating with NRA.

Basically, a conservative Republican's wet dream.

To be fair it’s not all Pubs, a few far right crazies. But I get your point.

While a few far right crazies and the number of rank and file Republicans as opposed to House members is probably much more than a few want Trump to become Speaker he leads in virtually every Republican presidential primary poll by at least a 30 percent margin over the second place candidate and in most by around 40 percent. On the other hand this is the most recent New Jersey Senate Democratic primary poll.
