I know what you mean, but I think the two decisions are in two different leagues of head scratching. Hegseth would not have made my list. The most positive thing I can say is I’m glad to get away from the trend of selecting retired generals. By design, the position should be filled with someone who has some outside perspective. My template would be a retired officer (no higher than colonel) who has been out of the DoD for at least five years with experience in the defense industry. Hegseth has at least served in the DoD and has written about some of its problems (agree with his analysis or not).

But Gaetz … good Lord. How can you have a guy at Attorney General who has never been a prosecutor at any level, let alone never a U.S. Attorney.

I have written at length on here how Congress should pass a bill detailing minimum qualifications for cabinet positions, ambassadors, etc. Usually, the opposition party is in loudly in favor, but the party in power says, “Meh. The President should get to pick whoever they want.” Then the parties change positions, and so do the opinions of their members.

Hate to burst your Magasm, sport, but the House was led by Pubs when the Gaetz investigation was started.

Would not the same apply for appointing Laura Trump?

Or the Senate could do its constitutional duty.

Yes. The two routes that make sense to me (depending on what DeSantis wants to do in the future) are to appoint a DeSantis person (the LG, his CoS, someone else from his gubernatorial service, or even Casey) or appoint someone that clears out some of the logjam that’s coming in the 2026 gubernatorial GOP primary. I don’t see any reason why he would want to appoint Lara Trump.

He’s not who I would have picked (preferred Elbridge Colby), but I’m not opposed either. Major upgrade over the current unqualified milquetoast.

In the case of Gaetz, that’s exactly what I hope happens. He resigns, his seat get filled, he does not get confirmed, he goes away. No reason to tap the optimistic button. I already know.

And I’ll hope the President nominates MTG next, followed by Boebert for the same exact reason.

There is only one world for the Pubs, and it starts with people you can trust to see your vision... And regardless of what the News personalities tell us, all politicians want their own people in important positions of political power. When they say that the Pubs CAN'T HAVE like-minded people in their cabinets... only the fools that don't remember history would believe that. And I am NOT talking about you, Ben. You know how it works.

If DeSantis were of the RINO flavor so to speak, I would agree... but his veins bleed MAGA Red...

Nothing sacrificial about it. Secret Ballot. His fellow Senators - including a majority of his fellow Republicans - hate him. And yet we keep electing him.

Closet liberal. Just like Pence, Kelly, Esper, etc. . . They were just waiting for the right moment to reveal themselves. Just another part of the grand, worldwide conspiracy . . .

A VP who, up to that point, had been the most loyal of soldiers. Let that sink in for a minute. This wasn't Tillerson or Mattis, this was Pence.

I believe some of the lunatics on here find that term offensive and prefer MAPs. Whatever they are called, I think they should be publicly castrated quarterly at county seats across the country. Municipalities could offset costs by having food trucks sell corndogs and pigs in a blanket.

Due to Garland - the super genius, ultra badass with an extensive resume - recommending no prosecution, I doubt Gaetz would make the card in his county.
But, in the name of unity, Trump should release Epsteins list, get it over to AGaetz so he can immediately add it to his Top Priority pile.

Lol... look, man, no one is buying what you're trying to sell. All cabinet appointees are sycophants. Has been since our country's inception.
