Donald Trump Just 'Technically' Violated the Law—Lindsey Graham

Senator Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, told NBC News' Kristen Welker on Sunday morning that President Donald Trump "technically" violated the law in his firing of over a dozen inspectors general on Friday.
    ..................................
Trump's hasty firing of the inspectors general received significant backlash from his critics with fears he is trying to replace those independent watchdogs with loyalists. However, even if the president violated the law, the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on presidential immunity last year gives presidents wide latitude to bend the rules or even break the law without repercussions.
    ....................................
Hannibal "Mike" Ware, who leads the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE), said 18 independent watchdogs were fired, according to NBC News, which reported that Ware was among those fired. Most of the dismissals were officials who had been appointed during Trump's first presidential term, The Washington Post reported. Michael Horowitz, the inspector general at the Department of Justice, was reportedly spared.

Federal law requires presidents to give Congress "substantive rationale, including detailed and case specific reasons" for the dismissals 30 days before the firings, the CIGIE said in a letter to White House personnel director Sergio Gor on Friday, per Reuters.

they knew, it's why they set up a system of checks and balances. they never anticipated that the senate would become part of a cult and totally abandon their responsibility to judge an impeachment case based on facts and evidence and not politics. every member of the senate that voted innocent on impeachment should be removed for abdicating their responsibility. the evidence was overwhelming, it didn't matter to the spineless twits worried about being primaried by MAGA

I have 4 years worth of popcorn to watch this poop show. I’ll be more than fine, but my maga neighbors who are dependent on public assistance and have Medicare won’t be fine. Wait till their drugs go up in prices. Can’t wait to yell “MAGA” at them when I hear them whining. Yes, I’m petty and stopped GAF a long time ago.

Hilarious. Amazing how "technically violating the law" doesn't seem to be an important thing either to Graham, MAGA voters, or, well, the entirety of the Republican Party Criminal Organization.

Obama fired General Gerald Walpin in 2009 after the IG identified millions of dollars in AmeriCorps funds that were wasted or misspent. Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson was the man in charge of AmeriCorps. Obama did not want his friend and loyal supporter to be investigated. Probably never heard of that one. MSM quiet.

don’t think Johnson was ever in charge of americorps
But there were Republican allegations that Obama fired Walpinti protect Johnson. Don’t know if they were proven

If the IGs were illegally fired, does that mean they're still on the job, or have they just let Trump illegally take their jobs away?

That is not a change to make them civil servants. If they are political appointees, any POTUS can fire them. And I'm quite sure you would be creating a very similar thread even if Trump had provided justifications.

Democrats have the right to try and bring Articles of Impeachment in the House if they feel that this action warrants it. However, I would recommend waiting until after a federal judge has ruled on the Constitutionality of the POTUS having to provide justification to Congress on firing a POTUS appointed political appointee.

It is not just IG's on the chopping block. The stated intent is to also reclassify numerous rank and file civil servants across all departments, who normally have protected status from political firing, so the admin can do mass terminations.

We are on the brink of something really untoward and unprecedented.
