Trump campaign speaker excitedly calls for "civil war" if Republicans lose the election

You don't believe it because you are motivated reasoning your way around it. You don't like the notion that people you identify with (especially Republicans) might believe in violence. I have a very hard time believing that the poll overestimated the people who believe in violence. Violence is not socially acceptable. Socially unacceptable phenomenon are generally underestimated in direct polling, not overestimated. I can buy 5-6% of people not really understanding the question or trolling, but 28% is a substantial proportion of the party to admit to believing in violence to a stranger.

 

If you read your poll you posted, you'll see there's a small but not insignificant subset of Democrats that believe the same thing. There are idiots and both sides.

 

That poll says 40% of people have yet to make up their mind. That alone tells me their methodology probably sucks. This country has a much smaller undecided gap than that.

It also had Biden in the lead by 2 points with a 43% approval rating and 44% favorable rating.

I suspect that your aversion to this result is because you identify with some of those 28-33% of Republican voters. A lot of them are white evangelicals (31%). And, much like you did with their Trump support, you wanted to believe it was something other than what it is.

 

Yeah. But these same people vote for the "political party" that tolerates, without a word, clowns such as this guy who is literally calling for a civil war. And which ACTIVELY LIES to minimize the un-American crimes of its nominee.

Sorry man, but anyone voting for an organization that tolerates or promotes such un-American behavior is complicit and part of the problem.

My neIghbor is a God-Gun-Guts-Glory flag waiving Trumper. I could not have a nicer, better, more helpful neighbor. Our interactions are always very friendly. That said, I make damn sure he doesn't know my politics.

All the other GQP candidates are strongly against liberal policies. Yet, the Trumpers have gravitated to the biggest bully among them: the one who loudly and constantly spews LIES, personal insults, racism, misogyny, hate, anger, division and insurrection.

Forgive me if I can't fully accept the idea that Trumpers are "just people voting against liberal policies".

 

There are many people openly posting they wish Trump had been killed and yet people act like the far right is the only violent party in this. ...

That said, this guy said it at a formal event and it needs to be demonstrably condemned as should he. Just not agreeing with it isn't enough with that type of rhetoric or platform in my opinion

 

There are crazy people on both sides. Which is exactly why this type of rethoric is dangerous. We like to think it couldn’t happen here, but that’s what everyone thinks until it does. And to be clear, Trump is without a doubt the biggest instigator of violence we’ve seen, at least in recent times.

What is the saying, thoughts form words, words form actions, actions form habits. I’m glad you condemn the speech. Don’t assume it isn’t dangerous or a slippery slope when the, current, front runner for VP of the free world allows it at one of his rallies.

 

To clarify. There are Trumpers and then there are voters for Trump. The Trumpers... Trump flag waving, boat parading crew are not the same as those who simply always vote Republican.

My parents will vote for him, but they detest him. Its weird, yes...but very true.

 

I know very little about JD and wont be voting for him so I havent done much research on him...but did he "allow" it? Is it possible the apology came at Vance's bidding?
