It’s absolutely not going to take 18 months for people to be allowed back to their property just to start cleaning up, but it’s not uncommon for people to not be allowed back for days/weeks.

After Ian i recall a similar issue on Sanibel Island, which was under mandatory evacuation. Obviously in that case a bridge was washed out, but I remember some wanted to go back on boats on their own in the immediate aftermath and were pissed the local govt wouldn’t let them. After a few days the govt took them on “tours” of their property. Presumably the issue there was they just didn’t want looters, but generally they needed to clear the streets of debris and check for survivors of people who stayed and they just didn’t want people getting in the way.

The reality is after a natural disaster it takes some time to “clear” areas before you let civilians back in. In a situation like this fire part of the grim task is sending in cadaver dogs and searching for charred dead bodies. As far as these LA fires, I’ve seen people returned to their burned out properties already in stories from a week ago, and also that some areas just had new evacuation orders 2 days ago in different areas because of different fires. Sorry Trump was being a grade A douchenozzle there, hard to know what that “18 months” that was even being referred to. But if a person wasn’t allowed to return to their property you can pretty well assume it’s because of an ongoing evacuation order and NOT because they will be waiting 18 months for a permit. I mean… come on.

 

Imagine being an elected official and using the advice and policies of experts to try and actually help your constituents, and keep them safe.....

......and some babbling criminal con man who can barely read or even understand the issue is publicly contradicting and insulting you just to score cheap approval from voters, and to degrade you based on political party.

You disagree with the reporters that actually stopped her and said that they were told that day that it would be 18 months before people could return to their property? You think that Bass had already fast tracked permits, and made it possible for people to get to work in their property?
Or are you just bashing Trump because he bashed her for her failures, lack of foresight and slow moving on the permit issue.
Residents have spoken out that they are being told it could be up to 18 months. Reporters have spoken that they were told the same thing. Trump said to the mayor get your act together use the losers you have and make it easier in your constituency to get back to their homes and start rebuilding their lives.
She lied in front of everyone to save face and got called on it.

Trump called her out, she lied in front of everyone and got caught.
She needs to get her act together and start making it easier for her people to get their lives put back together. But hey.. yall want a reason to bash Trump when he is wanting the people of California to have an easier time to rebuild.

 

You have to look at November 2024-January 2025 because if you look back further to Trump's first term, the answer becomes hundreds of thousands died because of his incompetence. But I am guessing that falls into the one death is a tragedy and a million is a statistic hole.

Also, it is funny that you mostly want to look at a time when he wasn't even President rather than the times in which he was President.

But it is interesting that you find local governance more important. Which of us live in LA?

 

Mayor Bass isn't doing a good job. But now isn't the time to publicly call her out. It doesn't help the people who need the most help. Focus on that first. Plenty of time later to point fingers.

 

Cult still refuses to acknowledge the death rate differentials post vaccine. What Trump said should be done (fast tracking permits) should have ALREADY been done and should not had to have Trump push for it.

I don’t remember responding just to you. I also think there are ALOT of post on this thread taking a slightly different slant/tone than you suggest. I’m not sure why you took my post personally.. you shouldn’t.. I usually try to skip over or ignore most of what you post.. my post was for the thread in general.

 

The fire danger isn't over. There's 80% containment, but not 100% yet. And part of the danger is embers in the burn area plus the winds.

Publicly calling out the Mayor isn't helpful. The people need help and support from all levels of government now. Pledge that in public. Point fingers later, after the danger is gone and rebuilding plans are set.

 

Also, containment is different from " the fire is out". High winds can carry embers from a " contained" fire and start spot fires as you pointed out.

 

Good idea, I wish the left would have done that during President Trumps first term.

This thread is about the POTUS doing what he always does; failing to even attempt to offer some relief through unity, and instead seeking to score cheap political points by publicly insulting a local pol (obviously of the opposite party as usual.) Oh, and punching downward, as always.
