is this any different to what happened with Ian?
no amount of department staffing was going to stop that fire once ignited in those winds in those conditions.

the water in the closed reservoir would not have made a difference

no department full of all stars was going to stop this fire

pumps to supply water to the tanks above PP that then feed the system should have had secondary power supply. when the pumps to refill the tanks weren't able to pump because grid has been turned off, the tanks ran dry. that's the reader's digest version of lots of what I've read. look forward to reading more to confirm or deny that critical element (secondary power supply to the refill pumps)

The Democrat narrative regarding the fires is a lie.

As I understand it, the Santa Ynez reservoir above the Pacific Palisades had its water drained so repairs could be performed. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm reminded of the 7 years NYC spent trying to build a skating rink. Then Trump stepped in and did it in 4 months. This catastrophe could have been prevented and the Democrats own it. They destroy everything they touch.

If someone has a picture of the painting it could be reproduced. Dr Steve Van Camerick is an MD and he taught nuclear physics at FSU. Speaks about 12 languages, plays at least 4 musical instruments. He told me I should masturbate frequently for prostate health (note to all the guys here). A friend of Steve's used to restore the paintings of famous art masters in Europe. Then he got into art forgery and ended up in prison. When he got out of prison he told Dr Steve he would paint pictures in the style of Monet or Renoir or whoever for $10K each. If anyone could reproduce a painting it's this guy. You can Google Dr Steve if interested. Assume you're not. The Sue Thompson I mentioned might to the Mary Cassat-like pastel chalk for less than $1500. She'd have to buy a slide projector. g8orbill might know Sue as Sue Mecanick. As far as I'm concerned she's a con artist but she is a big fan of Mary Cassat and very talented. I've seen what she can do with a photo

It’s nuanced - MAGA is stupid
    Trust the science
Something similar happened in a red state, don’t cha know?

To claim that there were not significant lapses in responsibility and appropriate execution by the government is silly. No one is claiming that they could’ve stopped the winds. They could have got out of their Diversity and DEI way and focused on how to minimize damage by fire and help folks in trouble. When the head chef quits at a restaurant, everyone else doesn’t simply throw their hands down and say well there’s nothing we could do. They work together, communicate with customers, and make the best out of a bad situation. People do not expect perfection. What is expected is competency, communication, and owning your mistakes. Very little of that has been done here.

It should be noted that Karen Bass is the mayor of LA city. No one lm Pacific Palisades or Malibu voted for her.

LA county is 10M people. Not sure how responsible the country is for this catastrophe.

    This happened Friday night:

"Blow dry San Francrisco" was never going to play well in the swing states. Gavin Newsom is as fork tender as the pork shoulder I took off the grill yesterday after it hit 203 F. He's done.

And one of the people killed in the fire was found with his garden hose still in his hand.

Sounds similar to hurricanes, lots of gas, just no power to run the pumps. Took us a few rounds to figure that out. Sadly.

    Black Panther meets Cackling Hyena

That's true. I'm also sure that many of the dead voted for their executioners, the Democrats. In order to get elected in Cali you need a 100% rating from environmentalist groups that oppose: brush clearing, using bulldozers to create gullies, using seawater to put out fires, getting rid of eucalyptus trees (firebombs) and so on. The above is per reporter Mark Groubert, who lives behind the famous Hollywood sign

This assumes Karen Bass and others were legitimately elected. Bass is an avowed Marxist and former Black Panther who visited Cuba over 50 times per Mark Groubert (Wiki says 8 times). She was part of a gun running operation involving Cuba. In 2020 some people on team Biden thought Bass would be a fine VP candidate. Bass has ties to CAIR, which has supported radical Islamists

Lol. The areas bulldozers might have helped are in hilly areas. Difficult to reach and more difficult to drive. And in hurricane force winds, the chance bulldozers could've created a large enough fire break in time was zero.

Use sea water? It contains salt. Know what salt water does to equipment made for fresh water? Massive corrosion. Know what salt does to local vegetation? Kills it and prevents anything from growing there for years. Fire is a natural part of the hillside life cycle. Things will grow in the fire damage areas. But had they salted the entire area? All the hills become lifeless, barren wastelands, and every rain becomes a mudslide risk.

The Santa Ynez reservoir might have added a few more hours of water at best. But wildfires like this aren't pt out by municipal systems. And certainly not when winds are so strong it grounds all air support.

I would think you'd have bare dirt fire breaks set up in advance. As for the scoop planes they are dousing fires with seawater. Eucalyptus trees should have been pulled.

Fire fighters on the ground are saying they lacked resources to fight the fires.

Seawater is a desperation move. And being used by helicopter only. Wouldn't have helped when the winds grounded them.

Fire breaks would have also been useless in 80mph winds blowing down the mountains and hills. Fires can generally spread at a rate of 10% of wind speed. And fires at 80 mph winds easily can jump most fire lines. Especially when the hills are burning and the winds are blowing down the hills into the neighborhood.

Here's a pretty moving piece from someone whose home was destroyed. Like a lot of people, we own too much stuff and I'm trying to thin it out. But the idea of simply losing it all is surreal.

    Top of the ridge
Family member worked for Cal fire for years. He said the cut backs and changes in regulations for the forest fire fighters handcuffed what they could actually do. But the biggest problem ( according to him) was the lack of understanding/ intelligence from officials who made decisions. Too much standing deadwood. Too much undergrowth. Not enough firefighters, not enough water… all of that has long been known by the men and women who actually fight the fires… but the higher ups that make decisions.. nope.
Didn’t care or had other priorities to chase.
The thing I hate most right now is how much focus is on the rich, the iconic places burned, etc.. so many lost homes they cannot afford to build back. Families will be displaced, everyday normal citizens will be struggling for years.
And media will interview Paris Hilton.
People in NC might be getting evicted from the temporary housing fema set up.. in the middle of winter.. and most people seem to care more about Ben Aflecks mansion.
    It’s pathetic and sad.
    This isn’t Dems vs repubs
It people suffering that need help.

When the National Weather Service gave the warning on Dec 2 that conditions for a catastrophic fire were in place it would have been a good time to try cloud seeding.
