Orange County is pretty close to 50/50. Even in LA county over 1 million people voted for Trump, i.e. 5 times more than the entire state of Wyoming. We've become so stupid because we of course think of politics as geography, thanks to the dumbest electoral system ever devised.

Stop citing CNN and NBC. They are propagandists. DeSantis and the state administration are always on top of the aftermath of hurricanes. You cannot prevent them, nor can you prevent forest fires, but you can affect their destruction once they begin with manpower, water, and a pre-game plan. Trump didn't politicize it; he educated the masses. A quote I saw yesterday sums up the democratic response :

"When a politician says not to politicize something, they are politicizing it by trying to avoid responsibility for their political actions." Democrats in a nutshell. And it's worse than originally thought. $48.4 million cuts were on the way.

Oh word, how's the insurance market doing? Or our state run insurance company? I assume we are no longer subsidizing people's beachfront homes? Good to know we arent one disaster away from the insurance market collapsing because the state government is so on top of things.

You apparently completely missed my point. I wasn't criticizing DeSantis for the way that he handled the aftermath of the hurricanes. In fact, I wasn't criticizing DeSantis at all. My point was that Trump was criticizing Newsom for allegedly being unprepared for what was an unprecedented event. It was literally a perfect storm and no politician could have been prepared for the wildfires in Los Angeles. California has a long history of destructive wildfires and they almost always occur in rural areas with the destruction being in small communities or on the periphery of urban areas. The current wildfires have occurred in densely populated urban areas most which have had no history of experiencing massive wildfires. Rather than demonstrating empathy and compassion for the residents who have lost their homes Trump has used their suffering as a vehicle to criticize Democratic politicians and there is a good chance that he will withhold disaster relief funds after he takes office as he did during his first term. Rather than politicizing the hurricanes Biden offered DeSantis all of the disaster relief funds that were required and FEMA provided DeSantis with all of the assistance that he requested. You think that we're going to see a photo like this one of Biden and DeSantis discussing assistance for communities affect by a hurricane with Newsom and Trump discussing assistance for Southern California addressing the destruction caused by the wildfires?

Trump criticized correctly. Yes, those winds were scary, but the governor was not prepared with water, manpower, infrastructure, and a game plan. Zero preparation. Trump didn't use their suffering; the Democrats politicized it by avoiding responsibility. Again, you have no clue if Trump held back help or what was actually asked of him. Why do you people make excuses for the grossly inept?

I think we can have a pretty good idea that Trump didn't do anything whatsoever...since he's not the current President.

That said, he did try to score cheap political points by shamefully politicizing yet another huge American disaster.

    He's a disgrace.

So what you are saying is that government officials shouldn't be looking to lower government spending?

Fighting fires in 60mph winds is easy. Just add water.

My question would be was enough done or anything done to limit the amount of underbrush and fuel for these fires in the past few years. I don't know the answer but I would think managing the forest of woods is the most effective way to prevent what happened with these fires. Not sure more water would have done much the way the wind was blowing and how fast everything was burning.

Try making comments like that if you are from the right. I've gotten a few deletions lately for much less offensive posts than that.

Controlled burns and fire lane clearings are pretty common here in Florida. One would think California with it's wildfire problems would be on top of those things.

Florida seems to do a good job with the controlled burns. I am sure California does some but not sure if they do it everywhere or as often as they should.
