Wow - this is possibly a new low even for Trump. And that is clearly saying something. Will be fascinating, sad and funny to see the Trumpies defend this. These brave Afghans deserve so much better than a POTUS who doesn't respect their brave service and who risked their very lives to help our military men and women. Maybe Trump just considers them "suckers and losers" like he does our military personnel? Thousands of Afghans who helped the US lose access to critical resources following Trump directives Thousands of Afghans who worked directly for or on behalf of the US government in Afghanistan have been cut off from critical resources and face huge uncertainty over whether they’ll be able to travel to the United States following moves by the Trump administration to halt foreign aid and bar federally funded help according to multiple sources. Last week, the Trump administration halted refugee flights across the globe, froze almost all foreign assistance, and cut off assistance for newly arrived refugees in the United States. These actions have had immediate repercussions for the thousands of Afghans who served alongside the US military. https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/27/politics/afghans-lose-access-to-critical-resources-trump/index.html
He betrayed the Kurds that fought along side our troops in 2019, too ... left them to die, surrounded by governments and warlords that wanted to kill them. ‘Trump betrayed us’: Fleeing Kurds condemn U.S. decision to leave Syria | PBS News
My opinion he only does these acts that benefit him in some way. Which "friend" does this benefit the most?
Trump tried to bar Iraqis who aided the US military during his first term. This time it's Afghans. It's a case of everything old being new again. From January 2017: Iraqis Who Aided U.S. During War Now See Visa Hopes Dim
Is that so? On August 29, 2021, President Biden directed the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to lead and coordinate ongoing efforts across the federal government to support vulnerable Afghans, including those who worked alongside us in Afghanistan for the past two decades, as they safely resettle in the United States. At the President’s direction, the Secretary of Homeland Security is working with representatives from across the government to coordinate our response and ensure unity of effort. Operation Allies Welcome | Homeland Security I guess you could argue that Biden should have kept enough troops in Afghanistan to ensure an orderly withdrawal of US troops as well as Afghan allies although Trump had decided to reduce troops in the country to a number insufficient to do either before Biden even took office.
Has bringing huge numbers of Somalis to Minneapolis made that city and state a better place to live? Russia warned us about bringing Chechens into America. To my knowledge we had let in only about 200+ when the Boston Marathon attack occurred. I was on the phone with Gregory R. Copley discussing "Chechen Jihad" when the first bomb was placed on the ground in Boston 4-15-2013 at 2:45 pm. We hung up at 2:49 pm which was when the first bomb went off. I saved the phone I used to make the phone call, which was 4 min 6 sec long. Nice call by yours truly. One thing we discussed was the horrible precedent set by the US when it recognized Kosovo's independence and bombed Belgrade. Less than 9 years later Russia cited that precedent to justify their invasion of Ukraine (under Article 51 of the UN Charter). Remember the Pulse nightclub shooter Omar Mateen? His parents were Afghan-Americans. Bringing in thousands of people from Afghanistan is a recipe for disaster. Maternity identified with Islamic State. The NW territory of Pakistan absorbed 5 million people who fled Afghanistan in the 1980's. We should make a deal with Pakistan to send these refugees there, not here. Send them to a culturally similar place. We don't need more Omar Mateens, the Democrats have let in enough of those already. Democrats once again proving they will destroy everything they touch.
the miscalculation was that the afghan government could stand on its own, at least for a while. For the US to pull out everybody including friendly afghans would have signaled we were just giving up and expected an immediate collapse. In retrospect, we may as well have done that, but it isnt surprising we didn’t just pull everybody out.
