Trump administration refers NY AG Letitia James for possible prosecution over allegations of mortgage fraud

FHFA Director William Pulte said in a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi that James appears to have falsified records in order to meet certain lending requirements and receive favorable loan terms.

Pulte cited a property in Virginia that James allegedly claimed as her principal residence, and a property in New York that she claimed as a four-unit structure instead of five, which he said could mean she was able to get a different and more favorable loan.

"This is a person who prosecuted Trump for everything short of ripping a label off a mattress, and among the charges that were brought in New York, in just the civil but the criminal case, was making false or misleading statements to financial institutions," Turley said. "As for James, if we apply the Letitia James standard that she created, there'd be little question here. This seems pretty straightforward."

James is also accused of stating that her father is her husband in order to file as a married couple, Turley added.

Lol, how funny would this if it turns out to be true. I hope they nail that arrogant piece of shit

Fun to watch the supporters of the un-American felon pretend to care about the law ..... even as they joyfully cackle about abusing it.

Pretty clearly retaliation, but if she committed a crime then she has to deal with the consequences. I don't have much sympathy for a prosecutor who doesn't follow the law.

How is this clearly retaliation? If she broke the law she should be charged.

    Just hilarious.

Now do Trump and his classified documents case ...... and his inciting a riot case ........ and his trying to overturn an election case.

Oh wait! He WAS charged .... in EVERY SINGLE ONE of those cases. By grand juries of citizens, at that.

But true "law and order" people such as yourself don't even mind that a corrupt judiciary prevented him from having a trial. (What, you didn't want to see him put on a plane to El Salvador? )

But hey, you're all pro-law and order again! At least for this thread. Way to go, you love the law again!

    Pathetic.

Sounds very very serious ... her mortgage paperwork says her building is a 4 unit structure instead of 5 units???? My god... hope the world can move on from this great injustice.

Sounds like a total joke, really. I wonder how much tax money Trump has wasted trying to dig up petty dirt on his critics.

Is that true? That should reduce estimated value of property which would make it clerical rather than fraud.

Do you think it's normal for the head of a federal agency to be involved in something this minor and then make a public spectacle out of it by sending a letter directly to the Attorney General? It's a warning to anyone who dares cross Trump - you will be investigated and prosecuted.

Two things can be true at the same time though - she committed a crime and has to face the consequences, and also she was singled out and scrutinized for her role in prosecuting Trump.

its more than that. Purchasing a home in virginia and reporting that as her primary residence got her a lower interest rate (which means lower payment). Shouldn't there be consequences for that too?

Which is the exact way that Trump’s case should have been handled. Unfortunately for Leticia, she decided not to do that and filed felony charges to libbie court. Payback is a bitch.

Having gone through a federal case I really don’t wish that on anyone. I wish all of this weaponizing was never started by the previous Garland and Lynch. But it was, and unfortunately I don’t see it going away anytime soon.

Like Robert McCall said to the Russian thug; “You pray for rain then you have to deal with the mud too”. We’ve got mud.

Not necessarily, could have implications on density in the area affecting the FAR which could impact the value.

If you commit a crime you should have to deal with it. When you are in a position where you prosecute for crimes and you yourself do them you are a hypocrite and should be held to a higher standard.

To help explain a 4 unit is considered a multi family which is eligible for a residential loan. A 5 unit is considered commercial and doesn’t qualify as residential, so the difference is actually pretty substantial and is textbook mortgage fraud…. If what is alleged is actually what happened…..she brought this on herself and pretty ironic.

Indeed. If she did that and they can prove it, she should be prosecuted (although, I am not sure if that is a federal vs. state crime). Much like Trump was prosecuted for his business record crimes (by the New York County DA, not the New York State AG, it should be noted), right? If we agree that lying on business records is a crime, then it would seem that what Trump did should have been prosecuted, right? And she should be afforded due process, a trial in which her lawyers have a say over the jurors in the jurisdiction in which the alleged crimes took place, the ability to put on a defense, and the ability to cross-examine and call witnesses prior to jury deliberations and the decision, right?

On the other hand, among his more ardent supporters the failure of a presidential candidate to follow the law is considered a feature rather than a bug.

not agreeing with anything you said. I think they are both ridiculous. When you do any loan you present collateral. If i state my house is worth 1.5m the lender normally requires an appraisal to confirm what I said. If that appraisal comes back at 1.3m, then so be it. If trump stated his assets were worth X, then that’s on the lender to confirm. Same for this current case. If she said the 5 unit was a 4, that’s a bit more intentional seeing as the difference between commercial and residential happens to be 4…..but it’s still on the lender via appraisal to confirm that the property is indeed a 4 and not a 5. These are both a waste of time but the precedent has been established in very public fashion, so it is what it is.

    Perhaps she should be prosecuted.

And if the grand jury so decides, she should be charged.

But then it would be perfectly acceptable if a corrupt judiciary conspired to see that she never faced trial for those charges.

    Amirite, MAGA?

As the NYC DA I believe she was required to live in the state of NY.
