We've had threads on shows and movies, and I think this deserves its own, particularly given the deeper themes and the opportunities to discuss clues, theories, predictions, and the various philosophical, spiritual/regligous, and cultural issues presented.

I just recently went back and re-watched Season 1 of True Detective for fun - before knowing there would be ties to Season 4 (we are now two episodes into Season 4). I had forgotten how fantastic Season 1 was, and Season 4 is off to an excellent start IMO.

I loved season 1. Big fan of Lovecraftian weird fiction and I thought it captured the atmosphere of that stuff well.

I’m digging season 4 so far. I thought the first episode seemed a bit fast paced when I watched it but they’ve sustained it well in episode 2 and I’m getting past my preconceptions of how the story would be told based on season 1. I liked season 3 pretty well, but season 2 was bad. I couldn’t even finish it.

Season 4 is awesome and ties into Season 1. Won't post those ties unless requested. Not so much a spoiler as they are mentioned in passing but something I missed and did not process while watching but heard later on a podcast. Now it's all over Twitter.

And of course, I think about TD Night Country when I see Putin wants to take back Alaska - we have special weapons!

And I love the term "corpsesickle". Some of the actors interviewed on the Vanity Fair podcast talked about how funny it was watching it being constructed.

And I have increased respect for Jody Foster as an actress after TD and Nyad.

I restarted season 2 just to see if it was as bad as it was remembered. I was pretty indifferent at the time, because I liked season 1 so much. If I finish, I will report back.

Cool. We loved season 1. I think we made halfway into season 2. Never tried season 3, but the buzz about 4 is peaking my interest again.

Season 3 is really good. Just that nothing can compare to season 1; which was one of the best seasons in TV history.

It would be nice if there was one place to pay for and go to watch all these streaming shows. But I can't afford to pay a whole group of companies to watch this, that and the other. Watching football players stream through the transfer portal is aggravating enough.

I hear you. We keep trying to cut back but each have good shows. May give up Max after TD, and resubscribe when enough else builds up to binge. Other good stuff coming up but have to cut somewhere

I don't remember much about Season 3. I think I'm going to go back and re-watch it if for no other reason than because Mahershala Ali was in it.

My brother used to write for True Detective. Unfortunately it wasn't the TV show.

Anyone watching Murder at the End of the World? About 3 or 4 eps into both…good companion shows thus far. Lots of snow & darkness

When I cut the cord and went to youtube TV I saved enough money to pay for a bunch of streaming channels so I added MAX. But no others that I didn't already have.

Haven't made the move from Hulu to Youtube TV yet but may. So far it still seems a slightly better value for the overpriced Hulu bundle but man is it expensive

Hulu was a little more but not much, maybe 10 bucks or so. Compared to Spectrum which I was on, I'm saving about 100 bucks a month for my "cable bill".

Agreed. We have started doing something like what @tampagtr is describing above. We have one streaming service (not including Prime Video since it just comes with Prime), and we just watch the interesting stuff on it. Our rule is that the first night we need to browse to find something that peaks our interest, we cancel. Then we harvest the low hanging fruit on the next service, until that moment comes again. We pay for one service at a time and never have a night where we need more.

We are not quite that disciplined. Agree about Prime being "free" because of shipping. Netflix is also largely subsidized by T-Mobile. So we don't think about either.

    The rest is harder.

Have Hulu because we need live TV, especially sports. Sling lost connection during some Gator games and that was it. Haven't considered Fubo; YouTube TV is cheaper but not enough for what you give up. It's expensive, but once you pay for Live, not that much more for the rest, including Disney and Hulu original programming.

We were giving up Peacock and Paramount Plus but then they offered $25/year deals with ads at Thanksgiving so reupped. Gave up PBS Passport and will give up Max after TD, reupping after a few series like Hacks, Last of Us and others I am forgetting run.

Edited to add: Forgot Apple Plus. By far, in our opinion, the best in terms of original programing. This we paid $60 annually - worth twice that

It starts to sound crazy when you put it all in one post, but each reason makes sense.

Also, I should add that we do have YouTubeTV because of the sports. I found it superior to Hulu, largely due to the DVR functionality, though perhaps Hulu has gotten better.

For streaming services, just gave up AppleTV and are on Paramount+/Showtime. We are currently trying to watch The Curse, but man I don’t know if I have the stomach for it. Lol.
