I already posted that THE way to solve this mess is for the NFL to ding the players who seem less-than-tough when the going gets tough. Sit them as practice players for a couple of years after selecting them in the 6th round or worse and THEN they will learn that their moving has consequences. Otherwise, welcome to the new era of major college football. Heading towards a true minor-league setup for the NFL, including a players union.
Just don't see this current "process" thing as working in today's landscape. Great recruiting classes aren't enough when you can't keep them more than a year. You have to hit the portal and get guys that are ready to play so you can get some wins on the field and create some momentum. Heard today on lockedongators show that they talked with a portal transfer from FL and the two main reasons he cited for leaving was development and strength and conditioning program.
Gonna have to wait for that odd guy with the cartoon rabbits spanking each other profile picture for that.
It’s going to be so exciting to be an Alabama fan watching your team play its farm/development team in an empty stadium.
Spin it all you want, and please save the he can’t block nonsense. He’s a top-shelf stallion that runs the ball exceptionally well. I believe he was the highest graded player on the team this year. He should’ve been the #1 RB on the depth chart and the first back on the field with a 60/40 carries load. Mismanagement, imho. He will only be in college ball for one more year. He wants to do it on a much better team, behind a better OL and for far more $$$$ likely. Just watch where he ends up. This sucks!!!!
If we improve our OL we will be ok at RB. He seems like a good guy was looking for a big year from him next year. Love the Gators but have no idea if we can turn it around next year and get 8 wins and show we are on way back. We have to have a At in the portal and keep this class together. Gator for Life
Easy. The Gators still play football and I will be a fan and proud alum. Players come and go in a rotating 3/4 year span continually, always have. Some sooner than others. Cheer for the Gators always, just enjoy the player while they are here.
That’s right Gators. Pay up for your tickets, parking, merchandise, your cable providers to watch the games, extra for ESPN+, and now to NIL collectives to buy players. When will college fans say enough is enough? Folks out here trying to support their families, working a job they probably don’t love, while 18–22 year olds demanding top dollar to play at your school. They basically saying the scholarship at your school is worthless. I want money for me, and each year it better be x or I enter the portal. How can us fans go on?
I think our kid that blew out his knee early on could shine next year too. Junior college kid. Forget his name, like 215 and 5'8" tall. Yikes! Semi-related: I read yesterday, (one of the more refreshing pieces) where a Fla State player was complaining about the portal being like free agency and was vocing his disdain. I don't praise much coming from Florida State, but even the players, particularly the committed ones sticking around are not digging it! As far as Etienne, I wish him the best. I hope he does well and shines at his next stop. It was fun him being a Gator and all and watching him succeed. He also has a cute sister, FWIW. Go Gators.
Every championship program nowadays needs momentum and to keep momentum. Right now, we see Ohio State losing it and FSU gaining it, and the results speak for themselves. Doesn't mean these things are even close to permanent, it's just how head coaches at programs with high expectations make life easier on themselves. Georgia and Alabama have been able to build that sustainably for a long period of time. Florida Football is just dead right now. It desperately needs a jump start. Maybe that comes in the form of a savior who isn't on campus yet, because frankly, if we try building around an elite coordinator, he will leave for a head coaching job within 2 years tops.
I was particularly pleased with how Webb hit the hole when given his chance. He's very quick to the hole. I think he will do very well next year. If Carroll can return to form that would be a really nice 3 deep.
Got my Season Ticket Renewal email last night. Next year would be my 36th season. It is also the first time I am even thinking about not renewing. My money and support do not matter anymore. TV revenue and lining up NIL donors are the name of the game now.
No. Student athletes used to come for 3/4 years and play for the college they attend. Now professionals who aren't ready to be professionals come to work as employees for a team that uses university logos and branding until they feel like getting another job. I'm a proud alumni as well and enjoy cheering for student athletes who will also be alumni eventually while they grow and become better people through athletics. I'm not going to invest a bunch of time, money or care in employees.
Been paying plenty of attention. A few of those schools you listed are undergoing HC changes so transfers are expected. The rest from the bigger programs are clearly money grabs or highly rated kids that aren’t as good as they thought and are getting supplanted by other players. Also none of those programs have had 3 losing seasons in a row, a coach that just fired two big positions coaches with no replacements (that we know of) and is likely on the hot seat for his third season. It’s easy to negative recruit that.
Wow! The transfer portal, NIL and continuing consolidation of conferences are the death notice to college football. Might as well just call it an NFL farm league. His big brother was not happy about how he was used. I am sure he had quite a bit of influence.
