Trask with some nice throws in the 2nd half but 2 more sacks and penalties are killing drives

Trask has stayed in the pocket.
Mayfield had several roll outs throwing on the run.

10 penalty for 118 yds no bueno .. Trask barely had time to throw.. I think we will get a better understanding when Trask starts next week.

It's obvious why they designed that plan for Mayfield. That OL is bad. They don't want him hurt in preseason.

Terrible throw here despite decent protection, but he had some good throws after this. We’ll see how he looks next week.

This should be the last season with Bowles as HC.

Even Bryce Young had problems, being introduced to the turf three time that I saw in his brief, pedestrian appearance. He's not playing against Mercer anymore. Welcome to the NFL.

I don't have the game on, but just peeked at Kyle's numbers. Much better tonight:

    18/26 for 156, 1TD/0 Ints
97.6 rating at the moment. It appears he is still in the game during the 4th quarter. Baker did not play tonight. I wonder if that suggests that Kyle is competing for the backup role. Sorry if that's obvious, but it seemed that the premise of this thread was that Kyle might have a chance to be named the starter.

I watched most of the first half and a brief amount of the 2nd. I'm not being a homer when I say I saw about 3 to 4 drops that were very catchable balls, far from reaches. Their Oline looks bad and they couldn't run at all. The bucs are gonna be rough no matter who starts.

Trask has a 33yd TD pass and has passes for 32 and 26yds on the current drive.
    4:48 in the 4th

    Bucs 13
    Jets 7

    Bucs ball 3rd & 1 at the Jets' 11.

Trask now 20/28 for 218 and 1TD. Rodgrigo Blankenship missed a 32yd FG and the Bucs are still up 7.

Only other Bucs QB was John Wolford, who went 4/4 for 57yds. This game has been pretty much Trask's. He had decent #s, but 13pts raises an eyebrow. Let's see if the Jets might get a TD to tie and then Trask gets a 1min drill.

Wolford got injured and was carted off. I think it does say Baker is QB1 going into the season because they put Trask back in after, but I expect the leash won't be too long for Mayfield.

It's really hard to make much of preseason games, particularly just looking at stats. Trask has had a few drops from his receivers too. He looks to be able to run the offense though.

Oline couldn't block for a 1 yard run and the kicker missed a field goal. Not that they would have put up 30 but a QB can only do so much. Several drops amd no running game isn't going to bode well for many QBs on the scoreboard. Just saying.

13 points is fine, and 3 drops. Not sure if you saw drops but he’s 23-28 for 250 without drops. 106 QB rating. Your also not taking into account two things:
Jets defensively are very good. Their first and second team guys are top 5-6 in league.

His line is average in their best day.

Kyle could have started against many other lesser teams. Bucs announcers thought he did really well.

Missed field goal too. Kyle can only do so much.

I would have to agree sadly that the bucs will most likely pick Baker who will eventually implode. The bucs will struggle under Baker as teams will limit his roll out passes. Bakers start will doom bucs HC.
Trask played well enough to be starter but appears coaches prefer veteran who is average at best versus one who would blossom with experience.

Baker or Trask aren’t going to be the downfall of the bucs this years. Bowels is complete trash and will not finish the season as a the coach.
