interesting that Chris referred to this roster as Golden's "third and most talented team" If we're more talented than last year, that's not too shabby at all
aside from "The addition of Chinyelu in the post and Martin on the perimeter are significant upgrades on that end. … " but yes, no additional details
Klavzar will wear No. 7 and Chinyelu will wear No. 9. They will be the first players in team history to wear single-digit numbers after 1 through 5. What kind of sorcery is this?
Bronny James rule? Who wore 9 in the Barcelona Olympics for Team USA? Not that anyone would confuse Chinyelu with him.
Speaking of the 1992 Barcelona games when I saw the men's basketball medal ceremony and the Lithuanian team were all wearing the Grateful Dead t-shirts that were sold to support the team I knew that I had to get one. My wife bought three. Early days of the Internet, LOL. I think that she emailed her cousin that lived near Palo Alto (Woodside) and got the skinny about how to order them. One is still in pristine condition. One is pitted out because it was in my pick-up game rotation of shirts and one is used but not too bad. I wore it to a couple of Gator games last season. The connection between the Grateful Dead and the Lithuanian national team was that Sarunas Marciulionis played for Golden State and the Lithuanian national team. The Lithuanian team was in desperate need of money just to attend the games. The Dead helped out. When guys like Marciulionis and Sabonis played for the Soviet team they had no problem with money.
I have to admit that Dr J was not my hero in my youth. He did things I knew that I could never do so I was never going to try to be like him. The guy that I greatly admired was Magic Johnson. He could play ANY position on the floor. He even played the 5 in a HUGE game and won. He had all the skills for any position. That is rare. Now I had to play all five positions off and on during my intramural career. I did my best with my limited skills but it really made me appreciate the level of skill that Magic had. Really amazing.
Still remember watching the game against the Lakers when he “ Rocked the Cradle “ dunk over Cooper. Lost my ever-loving mind …..
It will be interesting to see if Walter can run point AND still be as effective as a scorer. I do think, for about 75-80 % of the games, he’ll be fine. It’s the late, tightly contested close-out games that I’m concerned about. The roster is different and our style of play is going to look different. I think we’re going to have another exciting year.
