Todd Golden named head coach

Thanks Brent - wanted to get your take on this.

 

I don’t believe it is any easier, he played in Israel
And has coaching contacts and knows the leagues.
Who knows he may have traveled Europe and has contacts there. Any contacts of players from the Asian countries would be another bonus help.
Now how he recruits will be evident quickly. Hopefully they will help him get Nil help quickly and put together a great staff. He is jumping into the big fish market. Can he handle all the things we wanted to improve, recruiting, the team on offense and defense, inbound plays, the press hopefully likes him and he has some experience with the NIL last year and Florida Athletic department, the UAA and the administration will give up what little knowledge they have of this. Hopefully CBN will share the knowledge of his staff and what can be done because the other schools will stretch the rules to their favor. If he can handle all this and the fans watching his every step, he will succeed.

 

There is zero reason to be either optimistic or pessimistic with this hire. It's just a big fat question mark. It'll be interesting to see how he turns out.

 

If you are whelmed, then...whelm, that is that.

 

I definitely like him more than White.

Analytics + offense is a great start.

That being said I thought we could have gotten someone a bit more accomplished.

But if Golden can combine analytics with teaching and recruiting then it’s all good

 

Perhaps but we all said that same thing initially about MW.
Just think the fans are massively bit snake bitten by several ill advised decisions made by the UAA. I hope he works out, I really do. Personally I am hopeful but not necessarily immediately inspired by today's news.

 

Maybe but there is a thing that is the great equalizer in sports now more than ever.
Money. UF has heaps and can write a check for what they want. That's a reason to come here.

All we can say is, welcome and grow into the position as you are capable of growing.

 

We can play this game and the answer is who? I read we talked to Tony Bennett which was always a pipe dream. When it comes to mid major coaches I think you've gotta focus a lot more on the process and not one off games type in the tourney where anyone can get hot. From what I've read I really like the process so I'm happy with the hire.

 

Eric Fawcett is excited about this hire because he runs an offense that is modern. He knows modern basketball. Check out Eric's Twitter. That alone makes me excited. Eric knows more than all of us put together. Lol.

I agree with this. I posted that I didn't know of him. So what. I wouldn't have known many other options either. I never said anything negative about him. I am hopeful that Coach Golden can bring new energy to this program.

 

There is a part of me that feels like Stricklin listens to their podcast and said “I am going as opposite of White possible”.

 

That's a little mythological. UF is well positioned financially, that is true. But the facility enhancements alone are monumental.....or there is a lot more they want to get done. So the money isn't unlimited.
All that said, the very few "locks" still aren't coming here...they are getting paid AND have things set wherever they are.

 

I would rather go with Golden than either Grant or Shaka, two proven strugglers.

 

Erik Fawcett's article makes me feel good about this hire.

 

This too on the search process. Like what Stricklin and others had to say on why he was the choice.
