I hope you all are happy running off Mike White just to replace him with another mid-major up and comer. Hate to break it to people, but we are not a blue blood in basketball. We are going to cycle mid-major coaches until one is successful, but then we'll run that one off too. Hope this works out, though.
Part of the Bruce Pearl coaching tree -- luckily avoiding any wrong doing. Made the tournament this year but really hasn't accomplished much. How's his recruiting? Do we know much more about him?
So now we know what the athletic administration's commitment to basketball is. Hoping for the bet. Sounds like a strong basketball mind, but with VERY little experience.
Wow that was surprising. Thought we'd go after the guy on the other sideline. Best of luck to him and us though. Hopefully he can elevate us to the highs of the Billy D years.
This is not a hire that will bring much excitement to the program, but we just have to hope for the best and give him a fair shot here like White was given.
The reality is Stricklin has a lot riding on getting the football and basketball hires right. I'm kind of surprised how quickly he moved on this, puts a lot of pressure on him to have nailed the hire.
Grant? Shaka? And we go with who? How much did Napier's support staff pull out of the athletic budget?
I sure hope this isn't a let's hire some young guy on the cheap and hope he turns out to be the next Billy D. I hope this works out but to hire a guy from Cali with only 3 years of head coaching experience, no brand name, and question marks if he can recruit at an elite level to compete in the SEC just seems like a hail mary. If we were going this direction why not hire Kevin Boyle from Montverde.
Amazing, this guy is hired and less than an hour later people on this forum are knocking him like he has not a chance at success. Pathetic to say the least. I guess since the UAA didn't hire Red Auerbach, oh thats right he is dead, they failed.
If this hire and Napier don't work out, Stricklin will certainly need to be looking for another job. We will officially be Mississippi State at that point. Really hoping for the best, but I am losing faith quickly. Still bleed orange and blue and will attend all the games I can. Always need to support our team no matter the coach. I hope people remember that.
If we cycle through a few to get to what we need, then so be it. But you can’t say “well we might do worse” as a reason for not trying to do better.
