Edit to add if you regularly carry a gun around in most instances you should not own a gun.

I'm just asking for the data to help us learn where we are failing; what we do with that information might warrant separate discussions (some of it maybe mental health related, some of it not). But it all starts with showing the data...some of the misses will almost certainly be more obvious than others, some of the hidden data may take a while to become useful when compared with others.

I am a realist. I know gun people wont give up their guns and would skirt the law if passed (just like people will get abortions regardless of law). What I'd do is spend billions a year to make schools as impenetrable as the legislature houses, judicial houses, governor mansions are to attack. Those a-holes sit in their protected locations on our tax dollars and do nothing about children being killed. I want to protect our kids as well as they are protected. Do they deserve more or less?

Not dystopian whatsoever. Our middle school has double glass doors. You hit doorbell wave to front desk person and they let you in. At drop off behind the school and in front there is an officer. The children all say hello to the officer. When drop off is over the gate and doors are locked. That's not dystopian. It's common sense. What is not common sense is thinking we will take away peoples guns. It just won't ever happen and if it did, bad guys would figure out how to get them anyways.

so here is one thing I don’t get: many on the gun control side say we shouldn’t have AR-15s/pistols with high cap mags, etc because they are too easy to use effectively (killing a lot of people). But then we say we can’t have people carrying weapons without being trained. Which is it? You can’t have it both ways.

but that said, a training class isn’t going to change the mindset of someone who can’t put their ego aside, just like drivers ed doesn’t really do a damn thing about road rage.

Not to mention one can’t just walk into most of those places carrying a gun further underscoring the stupid argument that more guns make us safer.

So your argument is kids die more often in other ways so there's no need to worry about school shootings?

    EDIT: wrong take

It may be “common sense” in the age of mass shooters to have security, it’s also sounds pretty dystopian for elementary aged kids to need to go to prison schools and run mass shooter drills to be safe.

It’s not mutually exclusive. It seems you just don’t know what dystopian means. You just say “it’s common sense”. Should it be? Sounds like a less free society. Giving up freedom for guns.

Agree on the suicide numbers. Can't argue that. It would be interesting to know the numbers controlling for suicide. My guess is the escelation factor is significant. Most criminals want to steal property not lives. Both at home and in public.

Has it been determined which weapon this woman used ? If it was the Keltec is does NOT come in a high velocity round( rifle round ) and only uses 9mm or .40 which makes this a handgun. Yes a longer barrel but that does not increase lethality and is not a M4 or any relative of the M4

I’m not sure why that would be surprising. Mass shootings get all the headlines, but more than 100 die from gun violence every day in this country. So even on days with the biggest historical mass shootings, more people in total still died from gun related incidents elsewhere even on that day.

This is what heroic MFers look like. Dudes just went barreling into gunshots. They digitally hide the actual victim being shot a little bit if you are squeamish. 2Mins to 3:42 is the harrowing part.

Do you know what a high capacity assault weapon is? 6 people died right? Those same 6 could have easily been killed even with your “high capacity assault weapon” ban. How? What about a 6 round revolver… or a small carry firearm with 6 to 8 rounds. It is possible the numbers in cases like this MAY come down with additional legislation but, this IS NOT a gun problem alone. The “manifesto” this physco wrote will probably shed some light on her motivation. My guess is she was mad at the world and wanted to inflict as much pain as she could. With no prior criminal record how do you legislate around that?
