They are in violation of the rules so what are the consequences?

As long as they aren’t disruptive to the operation of the school I could care less. But if they are violating rules there should be consequences.

Even the statement sounds like the sort of shit a politician would write. This university is going in completely the wrong direction to try and cater to folks who will never value higher education.

I mean, the obvious answer is that jews are already a large and important constituency at UF, so siding with them is the easier path.
I also think they view it as a chance to pull in Jewish kids from around the country and raise our profile. The pieces are all there. Even if it’s been tarnished a bit this last year, our national reputation is about at its peak, a large existing Jewish population is already here, with them there is existing culture and infrastructure, and people are souring on some of the traditional places those kids might go. Even with Christians who sympathize more with the Jewish position than the Palestinian one, which is the majority of the country.
It’s a bidder’s market for a lot of top notch kids right. Now, and the politician in Sasse sees where the votes (students) are.
It’s certainly a fair discussion as to whether that’s the way to run higher Ed, but politically it isn’t dumb.

I don't necessarily agree with the tactics, but I think a lot of this is direct reflection of how bad it is in Gaza right now. Remember these occurrences when they hit back some years down the road. Gaza is the new Vietnam.

I think you mean Zionists here, because American Jews definitely arent on the same page over Israel

I meant Jews. There are two issues here, first is the war itself, no one really cares if people want to protest that. And as you said not all Jews even suooort Israel anyway, you notice how little attention the initial peaceful protest at UF got.
It’s the bullying and outright anti-semitism associated with many of the protests that makes some Jewish students feel unsafe, regardless of their war views. Especially at a time of already increased anti-semitism nationally, where many Jews were already feeling uneasy.
So between that and the optics of having something like what happened at Columbia happen at UF with the size of UF’s Jewish population, UF basically set ground rules saying “protest, but it’s not gonna go like it has other places”.
    It’s an easy win politically.

As opposed to the state's politics that are also affecting higher education and are repulsive to the majority of Jewish people. ;)

No shit, siding with the country America is supplying arms to murder thousands is an easy thing to do.

Imagine if you replaced Jewish with black or female here. It’s beyond crazy what’s happening on some campuses.

All people and constituencies are equal to the Democratic Party; but, certain people and constituencies are more equal than others.
