Racism is real, divisions are real, violence is real etc.

but saw this today, a 25 year old pizza delivery driver saw a house was on fire. He raced up, heard there were kids inside, and saved them all, including going out through a 2nd window with kid in his arms to get the last one out. He took the fall to protect her. And as he was on oxygen and about to go to the hospital for burns and smoke inhalation, his only concern was whether the baby was Ok. And oh by the way, he was white, the family are AA (it’s not in the article but I read around a bit more).

We are a better country than we ever hear about. Just wish sometimes that we could see the good beyond the problems and divisions.

Watch a man rescue a 6-year-old girl out of a home fully engulfed in flames and a 'black lagoon' of smoke

Amazing! That is a good guy.

No offense to the fireman, but story implied the fireman were devising a plan while this guy sprung into action for the last child. Risks of knowing bad outcomes?

OT: I saved a Cheeto from falling on the floor today. I need to up my game.

Generally speaking, I'm not sure if people are inherently good or inherently bad or perhaps neither. But Mr. Rogers used to say about tragedies that we should always look for the helpers. I've tried to pay a little more attention to that when bad things happen.

I tend think many or most people are fundamentally good, but they get distracted on news, politics and cultural issues from their self reinforcing favorite media sources. Our media is basically like having a steady diet of donuts and French fries.

Now this is someone who I would designate a true hero and true Good Samaritan. Much kudos to him for risking his life to save strangers in that fire.

Maybe I missed it but where is it implied the fire dept was hesitant to go in? I read it as the good Samaritan did this prior to their arrival?

In any event, all fire departments are different. I know that my house is probably going to burn down if it ever catches fire because my city fire department is a mess and doesn't fight fire aggressively....at all. Go one city over and the department will do anything they can to justify going into a reportedly abandoned building. I had no idea the differences in each department until I actually started working.

Fires grow exponentially. If someone isn't going in early it's usually too late unless interior doors are closed. Also it's probably just semantics to lay people but nobody is going inside if the house is "fully involved."

All that aside, this story is awesome.

An underpaid pizza guy doing the job as the actual people who are supposed to do that thing sit back and film it is precisely who we are as a country.

    HA! Note taken.

But in this case, only through my interpretation of the video after one viewing, it seems the FD was just getting word that two people were inside. And it was indeed an inferno then, I can’t expect even them to rush into that. Pretty much immediately the guy shows up with the kid.

So I agree with your take in far too many situations, but this one seems good all around to me.

Totally agree. I think I have Uvalde on my mind and read into this part:

“In dramatic footage posted on Instagram by the Lafayette Police Department, firefighters can be seen hastily preparing to head inside the burning house after they learned a 6-year-old was still inside. But before they could make a rescue attempt, Bostic emerged from the back of the home, visibly exhausted, with a crying girl in his arms.”

Bad timing on my part. I pulled a soda can out of the garbage today and put in the recycle bin that wasn’t even mine. Looks like he knocked me down to 2nd in this week’s hero rankings. :(

    Props to him.

Article said hero couldn’t call 911. That’s bad luck. Who doesn’t have a charged phone? I assume they were on scene well after he was and were just setting up. Seems like it was getting worse by the minute too.

This country is doing relatively fine. It's the constant fear mongering hate speech from media and the vocal SM minority that make it look like we've gone to hell.

    People lack perspective.

I disagree. People who sit at home on their laptop reading a story and knowing little about the details then judge other peoples actions based on their own prejudices is who we are as a country. Wouldn't you agree?

Ah OK. Yeah. Basically they got on scene and the guy was already rescuing the last child. Not sure what people think but typically there is a bit of info gathering in their first minutes depending on what's going on. Again, there is a plethora of video to be found on incompetent fire depts but there isn't any evidence they were hesitant on this one.

I'm guilty of being defensive because just like police video, videos of house fires and rescue situations are always Monday morning quartebacked through the comfort of a controlled environment and hindsight.

The People "who are supposed to do that" saved a teenager and parent from a submerged vehicle Sunday night at I4 and 95 South but because it hasn't been reported it must not have happened....

Coworkers of mine. Great job on their part. While I'm not in favor of hero worship or personal accolades for doing a job I do think there is far too little communication of the good police and fire departments do.

Another crew I work with were eating breakfast at a local restaurant as per Saturday/Sunday tradition. A women one table over went into cardiac arrest. They revived her and she was seen at the same restaurant a few months later living her life but a typical complaint is that the firefighters were getting paid to eat on someone's tax dollars.....

Edit: the two guys that jumped in the water make between $15 an $20 an hour despite one having 17 years on and the other 6 but as a promoted position.. so with the exception of benefits, probably about what a pizza delivery person makes.

Why would that be reported? A capitalist media makes money by getting eyeballs on ads. Customers aren’t demanding that type of content. It’s a quick feel-good, ooh ooh ooh moving to something JUICY I can rail about online!!

    Supply just reacts to demand.

I especially like it when the phone/cameras are there for movie stars that rescue people from danger... It's seems so natural... so real... What a wonderful life we all have. Lol.
