I think you’re close but the last piece is off. There are a lot of people who find the extreme abundance of LGBTQIA merch off-putting and out of touch.
It’s in your face and Target wants a reaction.
I was inside a Abercrombie store a couple days ago with my teenager and happened to notice their pride collection display.
It was a small table in the back and I barely noticed it. This is a more common approach to the movement and in reality commensurate to the reality of it.

 

But on the other hand, a persons race could make that person hyper focused on the subject as well. There are many blacks who are equally as racist as some whites. It takes a special human to overlook prejudice and be impartial and objective. They’re out there, but it’s rare.
Skin color talk is a big problem. I’m surprised we’re still talking about it.

 

I am not saying either way whether their virtue signaling marketing is effective. I really don’t care, but I agree it is probably over done.

What a dumbass position. Everyone is basically surrounded at all times by stuff they don’t personally like. Churches or liquor stores or cyclists or teenage drivers or whatever it may be for you. And just as it would be absurd to literally remove that God-awful (hehe) church across the street being so blatantly “shoved down the throat” of every single resident, the vast majority of whom do not support the activities therein, it is just as hateful to attempt to remove these people from your own precious sightline.

Let me unpack what you are saying, and respond to your question. I am absolutely saying, leaving no room to doubt, that qualities such as race, religion, sexual preference, hair color, height, weight and/or penis size has no relationship to whether a person is a good historian. None. I have read 100s of history books. I own well over a hundred history books. Other than guessing based upon name, I have little idea what race, sex or religion the historian/writer is. History is about research, analysis and writing. If you are writing about your history we call that an autobiography. Your autobiography may be reviewed by a historian and used with other research to create a historical piece, but if a black person in 2023 wants to write about the 1820 slave trade, his/her race does not lend any insight into that project, any more that the weight of the Japanese guy writing the same book. One does not gain perspective by DNA.

The instrument played by a teacher would not be factor in who I would choose to teach me Jazz History. Unless there is a magic flute involved, the ability to play an instrument has no relationship to the necessary required knowledge to teach any type of history. I play the guitar. My knowledge of guitar history begins and ends with the Motor city madman.

 

I checked with my wife and she says only parts of me are like a donkey, but otherwise nope. Never heard of swamp donkey, GatorLaw or Gatorshitter, but I am sure all three of them are awesome, like you.

 

We may have to agree to disagree as I believe your argument fails on the analogy. You believe a classical cellist and jazz saxophonist are equally qualified to teach jazz history, when one holds an insider's perspective that the other does not. History is not simply a matter of research and what's in books. There is process and experience. I will be teaching jazz history this academic year, btw. Fortunately, I have a great amount of experience to draw upon, not only as scholar and researcher, but as performer. Applying your logic, a classical singer could teach the history of the pipa as well as a Chinese person who grew up playing the pipa.

 

You’re right. I should have qualified the assertion with most investors. Activist investors are few and far between. They are either poor because their investments failed, or Uber wealthy, despite some of their investments failing. The 99% of the rest of investors expect the companies to maximize profits and thus maximize the return on investment. 99 is greater than 1, and thus is a majority. You’re welcome.

Is it a magical pipa that endows the player with wisdom and knowledge? If not, the Chinese player, absent any other factors, has no advantage in teaching History. Huge advantage on teaching the soulful and soothing sounds of the Pipa, but not the in depth knowledge necessary to teach history. (Unless it is a magical pipa…then all bets are off). Your success as a jazz history teacher will be predicated upon your scholarship, not your flute playing. Do you require all of your students to play a jazz instrument? If not, there is your answer.
