Just admit that every SOTU response is negative because every SOTU address is positive and this was absolutely no different than any before her and lets move on.

Heck, The Dems actually prerecorded several during Reagan's tenure.

I didn't watch, but I'm guessing this hits pretty close to the mark.

 

I do not recall the details of the Democrats responses to Reagan's SUA speeches although my assumption is that if they recorded their responses in advance it was because they had an advance copy of his speeches. Not sure whether the Biden White House released an advance copy with the actual text of Biden's speech but they did release an outline a couple of days in advance, more than enough time for Huckabee-Sanders to address the specifics points which she apparently failed to do.

 

It's not just positive versus negative either, as I think there is a more general psychological component. You have Presidents making a grand entrance and delivering historical speeches with all of the emotion, applause and groans that entails. Then the response is usually someone staring at the camera, and by comparison, it's awkward and low energy. I think it was Pod Save America mentioning that response speeches are where politicians go to hurt their careers or something like that. I think they mentioned Jindal and Rubio as examples. I didn't watch Sanders by the way so not even weighing in on whether her response was better or worse than usual.

 

People can still talk about it. It’s a political board

 

You realize you just admitted that you have no knowledge of the subject but assume the very best of your side and the worst of the other side. The very definition of partisan.

i was referring to Reagan's speeches the last of which was in 1988 and the Democratic responses. I do recall some of Reagan's memorable lines especially his speech following the Challenger disaster. I do have enough knowledge of Huckabee-Sanders response to know that she did not address the points in Biden's speech. She essentially just repeated MAGA talking points.

I dont think anything has ever been won from these things... so while yes, I agree with you on the lack of substance... I think it is meaningless and not uncommon.

Responses are never really responses anymore. In fact they really havent been since their inception in the 1960's.
