We should give credit where credit is due. The refs let them play and didn't turn the game into a free throw shooting contest. That allowed us to really be effective in the press because we had so many fouls to give come crunch time that the guys could be aggressive swiping at balls (like Richard) and poking balls out from behing (like Martin). if USC was in the double bonus the last 5 minutes, I don't think we win that game. I don't like to see slugfests, so there is a time when the refs need to use the whistle to get the physicality under control, but I was happy with the light whistle last night.
Yep. Those deflections on the press are often counted as fouls depending on the crew. I was stunned they didn’t call Martin poking the ball away under a minute left on the inbounds pass. It wasn’t a foul, but refs see a desperate team pressing and just blow the whistle.
I thought they were fine too, although I didn’t love the call that helped them get the 1 point lead when we finally tied it up. And credit to Martin for making both of his free throws when we were down 2. Their guy only hits one of his 2 late and that allowed us to get the 1 point win.
And it was LOUD in there during the free throws even though the place was not packed. There was a promotion if the opponent player missed two free throws in a row and it always amazes me what students can do for free food. That was the loudest they got the entire game.
