The Perception Gap That Explains American Politics

This is a pretty insightful article :

Americans overwhelmingly—but, it turns out, mistakenly—believe that Democrats care more about advancing progressive social issues than widely shared economic ones. Democratic respondents’ top priorities after inflation (40 percent) were health care and abortion (each at 29 percent), and the economy in general (24 percent). For Republicans, immigration came in second place (47 percent), followed by the economy in general (41 percent).

When it comes to how Republicans’ and Democrats’ priorities were perceived, however, we found a striking disparity: Americans across the political spectrum are much better at assessing what Republicans care about than what Democrats care about.

By far the most notable way that Democrats are misperceived relates to what our survey referred to as “LGBT/ transgender policy.” Although this was not a major priority for Democratic voters in reality—it ranked 14th—our survey respondents listed it as Democrats’ second-highest priority. This effect was especially dramatic among Republicans—56 percent listed the issue among Democrats’ top three priorities, compared with just 8 percent who listed inflation—but nearly every major demographic group made a version of the same mistake.

In a widely seen attack ad, a 2019 interview clip of Harris explaining her support for publicly funded sex-change surgeries for prisoners, including undocumented immigrants, was punctuated by a voiceover intoning that “Kamala is for they/them; President Trump is for you.” In tests run by Harris’s main super PAC, 2.7 percent of voters shifted toward Trump after being shown the ad—a massive result.

I think the success of that line is more about giving voters a permission structure to vote in self-interest rather than a swipe at Harris's hard-left positions on trans issues. The Trump campaign focused on voters self-interest. The Harris campaign assumed votes were acts of either altruism or hostility. For example, men's votes were framed as pro- or anti-woman. Particularly for young/unmarried men -- weak demographics for Harris -- that was unsuccessful, because those men's votes (and, bluntly, those men's lives) have relatively little to do with women either way. (As an unmarried male Harris voter, I rolled my eyes many times at women who voted the same way I did and were so vain they even thought my vote was about them.)

If open borders... inflation and the crazy cost of food, insurance, housing, clothes and all other sorts of important items are a matter of "perception" then maybe it's your perception. Lawlessness is real... rape and murder of our woman is real... grooming... drug proliferation are all very real.

Perception gap? Is that where the Dems tell us all that the inflation of everything they have advanced, explained by some of the examples named above, are not the results of their policies? You can't expect anyone to believe the Dems that have been in control of our government for the last 4 years will suddenly change their ways. They are incapable of any positive change.

The Leftists believe that We The People should be enslaved to a totalitarian government, and that we should not have any Constitutional right to bear arms nor should we have the right to free speech. What's happening in Europe and Australia is NO accident, nor should it be viewed as an anomaly of governance. That slavery to a totalitarian governing body is exactly what they want for the American citizenry. The perception gap is thinking the Leftists can get away with taking our Constitutional Rights from us without a hot civil war.

There is NO perception gap... it's all real.

Lol... look at the old geezers in the front of that line of "insurgents." LMFAO! Hollywood central casting FAIL... They are FBI "informants" and sycophants of the alphabet agencies.

It's the height of ignorance to think in our country, with the most weaponized/armed citizenry in the world, would be guilty of causing an "insurgence" without one single weapon. NOT ONE GUN? LMFAO! Pure Hollywoke fail.

This is pathetic to read. Trump's policies fed into inflation just like Biden's did. Printing money has consequences. Trump's plan to address it? Increase our prices even more with a trade war and give rich people tax cuts.

Stock market has went straight up under Biden and people seem to think the economy is....bad? What is going to be bad is if he appoints a Fed chair that cuts interest rates before inflation is actually under control, like he is stating he will do.

You speak of authoritarianism...which side is hoping to round people up into camps and ban things at the federal level? What freedoms do we not enjoy right now? I still can't believe people fell for this garbage.

Worst yet is Christians who think this guy is on their side. As a Christian, really appreciate you all taking your culture war out on the rest of us who just want to live normal lives.

Now we have a guy from the Oprah show controlling 14% of the federal budget and another TV show host in charge of the military in the most dangerous times since WW2 ended.

The only thing that screwed our economy was Biden and his shutdowns... And it was done on purpose. The Dems PLANDEMIC purposely released into the American populus, and all across the planet, is an attempted genocide that will be investigated... Fauci is a man waiting for prison along with all the other people involved that gave it gain-of-function to kill people. And Pfizer executives are next in line to get a prison cell.

I dare the Dems to try this attempted mass murder again... the Dems are just dumb enough to try that BS again.

No mandatory lockdowns happened. Biden shut the whole world down for more than a year. Millions of people that refuse the vaccines were fired from their jobs, and that added fuel to that fire. It's pretty convenient for you to re-remember things that happened under the orders of the puppet Biden administration.

Like I have said for years, the Dems know they cannot take a health country into socialism with a healthy middle class. So everything Obama and Biden have been doing is to kill the middle class... starting with the construction industry and then with small businesses. All this ties perfectly to the PLANdemic...

It doesn't surprise me that easily verifiable facts are beyond a Trump voter to understand. Please look at the timeline of lockdowns again in 2020 and recall who was in charge. Sure wish more would have done so, ya know, before the election.

One thing we can agree on is that the vaccine mandates were a mistake. The vaccines didn't really stop transmission well.

The two-week SUGGESTION was never a mandate... and that was offered up by Fauci and the other inventors of Covid-19.

The federal gov't did not at any point mandate state lockdowns. However, the only time we were locked down (e.g. businesses closed) was in 2020 under Trump in the state I live in.

Again. The left misses the point.
Most people I know don't think that LGBTQ issues and abortion are the "top" issue. But we know they are part of their agenda. People voted against an overall agenda. That and the constant telling us that we dont know what's what.

    Again
