They make albums, even concept albums, press them on vinyl and CDs distributed by independent labels who get these albums out to record stores where real music lovers buy them. Half the bands and artists I mentioned are releasing new albums in the coming months. And people do buy albums the way they used to from independent record stores all over the world.

People that think all new music is crap are just too lazy to find new stuff they like. The best music coming out now is just as good as what was coming out 20, 30, 40 or 50 years ago. If anything, there's more of it.

Heard someone on NPR predict that CODA would win. Very happy with that. It was a wonderful film.

Next year's Emmy for Best Actor goes to either: Will Smith or Chris Rock.

Okay, In fairness, Nick Cage has been playing some psycho roles lately but let's not forget he's got some Talent; he just doesn't use it very often. Leaving Las Vegas was good Moonstruck, and definitely Adaptation

It looks real to me but def Smith not trying to do real damage. Had he really slapped him, he'd have gone full hand, not just the fingers.

Gotta laugh though, he and Jada live their lives extremely way too publicly, so for him to all of a sudden get all crazy because someone cracked a joke on her suggests to me some of the cheese has done slipped from the cracker.

Well, the title of this thread proved unintentionally accurate.

I honestly don't care but my guess is staged. It is possible Smith warned him that he was going to do it if he joked about his wife and he did it anyway. Rock leaned into the slap.

Clearly real. Can’t believe people thing that was staged. Violence and screaming “f&cking” at the Oscar’s? Cmon. Definitely not planned.

I think it was a culmination of all the jokes and memes that him and wife’s relationship has garnered recently. Still, you don’t want to set a precedent where a comedian has to worry about their safety after telling some jokes about audience members, Smith should’ve pulled Rock to the side at a later time to tell him off.

You are going to need bouncers on stage now! More likely this will be the last time you see a comedian directly engaging with the crowd. Maybe Alexa or Siri will host next year. What a mess.

I thought so too when it first happened because it was so outlandish and because Chris Rock managed to stay pretty calm. But after the videos from the commercials and Will Smith’s acceptance speech, I don’t see much chance it was staged.

I still don’t know what the hell was going through Will Smith’s head. I mean the joke was not even that bad. She has alopecia, she is not dying. If you are going to be that thin skinned then stay home.

And what kind of message is the academy sending by allowing him to stay and laugh it off? That assault is fine as long as you are famous? They should have escorted him off during commercials and let someone else accept his award on his behalf. But they were probably afraid it would be seen as racist given all the ‘Oscars are too white’ noise.

Unfortunate on many levels. On a night that was supposed to be the cherry on top of a long and successful career, he came off looking like a stereotypical angry black male that resorts to violence when he feels disrespected.

There is no such thing as bad publicity? Would anybody be talking about the Oscar's without the slap? Chris Rock leaned into the slap. Someone comes and attacks me I am ducking and covering. He walked onto the stage. That just seems so wild.

Well, if it was staged, they should give Smith another Oscar for that performance during his speech. Talk about an uncomfortable, incoherent mess.
