Yeah, we need to wrap up Nonar. He moves effortlessly like he is a DE. He needs a lot of time with Savage though to get the size and weight he needs. He is not as broad shouldered as I would like him to be but makes up for it with a huge wingspan. Regardless of what this OL class is on paper, it really does not mean much because the difference in quality from top to bottom of the rankings is not what it has been in times past. I don't see the same dudes on OL this year as in 2017 and 2018 when Bama and Georgia were pulling in some incredible OL classes. It has to be related to Covid and not working out enough. This year we just need to grab guys that have a good frame and build on it since we don't need somebody immediately to contribute.
It is often said ballers like to play with ballers....while some are high on our OL commits...it is only gator fans with orange and blue glasses who are optimistic about this years o line commits. They may turn out awesome...don’t really know. But Farmer isn’t even rated by 247. Livingston played TE last year and is now playing QB. Connor played 3 games at o line last year after playing d line. The entire class is projects. To believe that Hevesy is better at scouting o linemen than the entirety of all college football coaches on top of being better than every recruiting service is wishful thinking. About ballers wanting to play with ballers...optically our o line recruiting this year is poor compared to our peers and even programs below our pedigree. Does this type of recruiting start to hurt with attracting elite QBs? RBs? Other skill players want to go where they will be successful - it’s why Evans may follow Evers. But will future Evers look at o line room and balk? Qbs and RBs need an o line to help them succeed and how any player can look at the hodge podge of unproven lower rated OL and think they will help them look good is worrying I welcome Farmer to UF along with anyone who chooses the gators but it is worrying to me.
Production for the line could finally be kicking in. Good results on the field this year might yield improvement in recruiting at the tackle positions which remains a nagging concern. Beyond that I feel pretty good at the slow build/development process Hevesey is doing but good play on the field needs to continue.
Hopefully that is the case. It's time for the the development over raw talent strategy to bear undeniable fruit this season. If it doesn't, it's pretty obvious Hevesy doesn't have an answer and needs to hit the bricks.
Uhh...UF averaged like 2 yards per carry and got sacked 5 times compared to Bama averaging 4.7 and getting sacked twice. We better hope the lines don't perform the same as last year.
The bama DL is outstanding and will likely eat every OL they face. To me, bama has the best defense in the nation. You are partially right on the OL. Bama's returning RG and RT are as good as they come and both will be high NFL draft choices. The C, LG and LT are experienced backups who are not as good as the versions the Tide put on the field in 20. Our DL, defense as a whole, will be fine against bama so long as we don't give up explosive long TD plays. Playing bend don't break could be the ticket for keeping UF in the game. Getting a few stops and holding the Tide to a few FGs may be all it takes to pull the upset. This presumes UF can consistently score on that outstanding Tide defense. Scoring 13 like Miami did is the prescription for a woodshed home whipping.
lol i say that because I felt, regardless of the stats, our DL and OL played a damn good game against them last year. Yes Bama had 500*+ yards (and that was LAST year) but they had to EARN those yardage and I feel our DL is better this year than last year while I’m confident to say as of TODAY Bama’s OL isn’t like the one from last year. Carter (and Slaton) had a whale of game against Bama last year.
It shouldn't be that bad but their DL is at least two deep so we are going to have to be able to rotate our OL as well. Do we have the personnel? I trust CDM to field an offense and I hope we keep their defense on the field. This would be a good game to win TOP. Everything goes to heck if we turn the ball over. Maybe our defense will shine.
Our OL and DL will perform better than last year. They have shown good progress. The question is will that better be good enough? We MUST get the TE's involved more. Specifically in run blocking and check downs. Our secondary is suspect imo. If they are going to take a step, it needs to be now. Alabama is a late driving team. We need to score the majority of our points early. If we lead at the half we have a shot. The biggest battle will not be on the field. It will be waged on the sidelines. Dan needs to frustrate Saban and get in his head with tempo, different looks defensively and clock management. Grantham must call his best game ever with different blitz packages and coverages. Helm must become a playmaker. They will try and expose him. All that being said as go our QB's, so goes our game. EJ will either be a hero or a backup after this game. Go Gators
the irony of this thread... our strongest performing unit so far getting bashed lol. most wanted coach hev gone after last year. same could be said for coach knox and the rbs. patience my grasshoppas
