Just like the technology is evolving in warfare with drones and missiles, it is evolving in the home burglary industry as well. The latest involves using signal jammers to prevent wifi and cell phones from working. You (or your neighbors) cannot call for help unless you have hard-wired phones in the house. If your security system has cell-phone backup (in case the house phone line is cut), the security system cannot alert anyone. If you have security cameras that rely on wireless transmission, nothing will be transmitted. The thieves (in this case, in Phoenix) are in and out in ten minutes. They are from Chile. If Chilean thieves can afford this technology, we're screwed. No doubt, it will be coming to a neighborhood near you.

It is probably a good idea to have hard-wired security cameras around the house as a minimum, if you think that you might have something worth stealing. The article also has advice on how to remove photos of your house interior from real estate websites.

Didn't read the article but do they have any new technology to deal with my thousands of years old technology at my house? You can see her picture at the left of this post, her name is Spider Dog and nobody gets near my house without her knowing it.

I worked 15 years in the home security industry and always got a kick out of camera images of would-be intruders, posted on platforms like Next Door, captioned with “Got ‘em!”

No you didn’t. Got ‘em entails the miscreant led away in handcuffs.

Real time intervention is better, whether by the homeowner (unlikely) or via professionally monitored cameras (pricey).

That technology can be defeated, unfortunately. I had a friend who was a bit car-crazy, and he sent his BMW M6 in for an engine overhaul (with an upgrade to titanium engine parts!) at a high-end shop in Houston. The shop was guarded at night by several large doberman pinchers. The gang of thieves threw poisoned meat over the fence and waited an hour. All the dogs died. My friend was lucky that there were several much more expensive cars in the shop in much better driving condition than his, and all he lost was the stereo.
