Sorry, Charlie....I've considered it, but I've concluded that the board needs someone to counteract some of the dumbassery found here.
Repped. Let me say i like how our team is shaping up. However, we have to be realistic that we will face this season 7 teams that likely will be rated as having total team composite talent greater than ours. Then there are others that are punching above their weight. We have to overachieve and outcoach just to get to .500. And that talent differential could be even worse with a different head coach. We haven't even seen CBN with a top QB he has developed. These are just facts that should shade our expectations of what will happen on the field this year.
t Correct until proven l and looking at composite talent, how much does a freshman class and a second year class really affect the product on the field. Most of our talent comes from the last two classes.
I have optimism. I and most of Gator Nation was "shattered" when we were 5 - 2 in 23 and then the bottom fell out. Butttt - We were "close" in several of those contests. I sure would have liked to see Mertz healthy against FSU. UF just may have pulled that off with Mertz healthy, of course FSU could say the same about Travis. Anywayyyy - Look, after FSU we lost 1/4 of a #2 or #3 ranked class. Gator Nation was in a "nasty" mood. Some of our favorite Podcasters went on the warpath. (Good morning Ally) What did we finish - 13th or 15th in recruiting? But Napier rolled up his sleeves and kept "sawing wood". Managed to keep the locker room in shape, kept most of the "Big Dogs" home and out of the Portal. Made some coaching moves, had a decent spring, NIL seemed to rebound. Transfer Portal and Recruiting: Suddenly, as of yesterday, we land 2 more great prospects (that 3 star D lineman we signed yesterday is def going to be a 4 star when it's all over btw, hope he sticks, check out his film). Now UF has crept up to a #7 or #8 ranking. UF is in it for one more transfer (That ASU reciever). Napier pulls that off and he gets a solid spring transfer portal "A" from me. None of the above translates to "W's" yet of course but I do think we are seeing the "talent aquisition business" beginning to take "hold". QB room is impressive (IMO) OL room, well with yesterdays transfer, it sure seems to me like UF has built that room up. Alot of youth but I see a room with a ton of potential to be quite good. We certainly have the size! DL - Improved LB - Improved Recieving room - A little too young for my tastes but the room has speed and potential. DB's - Many new bodies, I would be shocked if this unit is not significantly better. Running Backs - I won't go so far as to say Treavor will not be missed, but this room looks pretty competitive as well. Just need to keep Montrell healthy. ST's - Kicking game should be great, the rest of it remains to be seen. SAC - (strength and conditioning): No clue, hopefully the reports are positive about the new SAC regime. Whats all this add up to? If I knew I would be laying the cash down at Vegas right now. I'm just saying, UF had minimal transfers from Spring, and picked up some good ones. The locker room seems steady, and I "think" we have greater depth at almost every position. Despite the schedule, I see a decent chance to beat the Vegas prediction of 5.5 wins. Crush the canes!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A different type of ranking, with the Gators at #7! College football top 25 overall team rankings for 2024 cycle
The future of Gator football is the beginning of every season. It has been that way since I was a freshman in 1963. Hope springs eternal:
Lagway is a beast and looks like he can move around out of the pocket. Coach should pull out some plays from the fun and gun binder once in a while just to keep the safeties on their heels.
Th That's what it's all about, right there. If we knew we were going to either lose every game, or even win every game, why would we even watch?
If they played the games on paper, they could just skip the season and ship the hardware to whomever the pre season number one is every year.
Concerning that the "future of Florida football" is on a true freshman recruit. The "future" should be the coach, but nobody even suggested that.
A coach can only do so much. Bill Belichick is not that great without a really good quarterback. An exceptional quarterback makes the team as a whole to be winners. Andy Reid was a very good coach, but Mahomes made Reid a winner!!!
It's the chicken and the egg dilemma. If our freshman QB, say Lagway just to make a point, gets players to sign with the Gators than it's on him and becasue of him that we got all that possible talent. However, if Napier gets our team to win 10 or more wins this year and his coaching will be the reason for our success... then he would be the reason why we open the flood gates to highly ranked players for the future. I think we know the coach is the one that should get the credit for our future becasue he makes all that happen. Without Napier we don't sign Lagway. So Napier truly should be reason for any success of the Gators' football program. It all starts at the top.
I understand where you are coming from, that makes sense. What came to my mind was if you asked UF in the 90's, or 2006, or Bama for the past 10 years or now UGA what their future is, they would all say the head coach.
Your rationale seems spot on and tough to argue against. I have a hunch that the Gators are going to overachieve this fall. So, for now, I will reject all objectivity! LOL! Seriously, though, your very informative post has merit!
