Meh, it's not surprising with the lack of leadership in Gainesville right now. It's gonna be a mess for a minute IMO.

To me the lack of linemen simply means bad recruiting. Plain and simple.

 

Given the guys doing the Presidential search it could take a long time. Hope I'm wrong, but there are other state universities who have been without a permanent Prez for awhile. Total cluster xx from top to bottom right now.

Basically Napier say his approach was to start Mertz in each half, then alternate the two on a pre-planned basis leaving the option open to extend one guy's turn depending on the situation. He said that way the QB's wouldn't be "looking over their shoulder", but, still would allow some room for playing out the hot hand. Personally, I don't have a problem with how he did that. The problem to me was the plays that were called the entire first half. In the second half, there was some immediate success with mid-range passes. That probably would have worked in the first half, too, and made it a game. Longer passes weren't working because of the OL breakdowns and Mertz' inability to hit a wide open receiver downfield. Runs weren't working because of our OL not getting a push and because of aTm's known excellent D-line. Still, he refused to do anything on first down except run up the middle for one or two yards, leaving 2nd and long way too often.
