Napier was given more resources than any coach before him. He owns this failure. The university did their damage the last 15 to 20 years falling behind the times but this time it's on the coach.

I’d also add with NIL it potentially is easier to rebuild a roster much quicker.
    Kelly did it at LSU
Norvell did it (for one year) at FSU. Yeah they suck now but Norvell hitched his horse to a crappy QB which is their biggest issue this year.

What's worse though is other than our lines he has the talent to win 9 to 10 games or more and that's even with our schedule. I said prior to the season that the schedule doesn't scare me and shouldn't be a factor because either we improve or we don't and people were not looking into the details of that schedule. It's one of the toughest in the country but people gave name value way too much credit. I knew fsu was losing a bunch and had dj at qb. Tenn is breaking in a new qb. I'm still not sold on Miami as world beaters and we had every reason to at a minimum be competitive in that game. I mean Texas and Georgia are the only two "intimidating " games.

Trade coaches with anyone on our schedule and we win all or nearly all our games to this point. Especially seeing defensive improvement now which goes to show our inability to prepare until the pitchforks came calling after those two abominations against miami and aTm. We have enough talent to win now.

At what point are we just going to relieve the AD of football duties and hire a GM. Bring in Ran Carthon and run the program like an NFL team.

    Winner!!

This false narrative that we are losing because we care only about academics is complete nonsense. Texas now, and Michigan last year, blow that out of the water.

While Foley was a penny pincher, and let us fall behind in facilities, we have corrected that. Napier had his "process" and wanted a lot--and he got it all-coaches, analysts, nutritionists, etc.etc etc. along with a big salary, big buyout and big budget for his coaching staff and everyone else. We spent the money on the program.

We aren't losing because UF has an excellent academic reputation.

Are you seriously suggesting that when UF obtains grant money for research in science, medicine, engineering, agriculture, etc., it is depriving the UAA of funds?

    LOL!!

One has nothing to do with the other.

I'm not arguing your point, as Foley himself was clear at the time he thought the facilities race in football was a poor investment akin to a speculator's boom, but he oversaw huuuuge investment in facilities. It was just in a bunch of sports other than football.

Not sure it's all that clear he loves to recruit. The only place its clear the recruiting went well was at USC with a bagman in Orgeron.

I’m certain that football is not nearly as lucrative or important and football is secondary but tgat does not mean that one has to affect the other. We can be top shelf in both.

You obviously have a differing vision of what Florida football should be than most UF fans. Do we want to come close to beating a very flawed team who is getting exposed every week, and is not close to a top 10 team? That UTk is turning a blind eye to Heupel's failures because he has an exciting offense against bad teams who don't use the blueprint defense that beats their offense, doesn't mean we should give Napier a pass. He does many, many things that a championship coach does not.

It still took Norvell a few years to gain any continuity. It wasn’t instant

I posed that leadership has prioritized academic standing in the last decade. That is a fact with the Strive for 5 directive.

antny posed that from Muschamp>McElwain>Mullen the university had perhaps not provided full commitment to the football program, but has absolutely done so with Napier. I agree with that sentiment. The posters invoking the other tier 1 research institutions doing both are right - but it takes full commitment from top to bottom to have both.

Florida may (or may not!) be looking for a 5th head coach since Meyer departed. My insinuation is that leadership had not previously prioritized getting the football program "right", but it at least looks like they were fully invested in Napier's appointment and everything he asked for. And leadership missed on Napier's hire.

The next hire has to be the right one! (Shouldn't they all have been?). If Florida misses again then we are looking at future enrollment who weren't even born when Tebow played. That's only a few years away, everyone!

All of us posters are going to end up like the "Sure grandma!" meme

I wonder this too. I know it’s been kicked around on here. Seems between our law & business schools, they could create a model of what that position should look like. This school has sooo many smart people between current and former students that this could be an opportunity to get out in front of the changes that have and will occur. Maybe a former GM or Asst GM with nfl experience like Ran would be ideal.

Pretty sad when all he had to do get a competant OC to save his coaching career in Gainesville... but he "knew" better than anyone and he thought he had that all under control...

I've said it before, and I will say it again. His own hubris will escort him to the exit door in Gainesville.

I’d say one good year doesn’t suggest continuity in anything except his tenure.
